BabaO2: ordering the drivers to do frog jump won't put things into check. Basically speaking, these drivers are just carring out their day to day activities. The truck should be seized, the container confiscated and the driver detained till the company or owner comes to bail every thing out. With that companies and truck owners will adhere to the new stipulated law. It goes beyonds the drivers alone. 2 Likes |

Naija and flawed solutions. The problem isn't the schedule of commute rather it's the road worthiness and driving conditions of this heavy duty vehicles. most trucks are coffins on wheels and can't pass a road worthy test if subjected to scrutiny. Mandatory quarterly checks with heavy penalties attached would curb this nonsense. http://www.datafilehost.com/d/f2d8bd1e |

Way forward. To serve as deterrent to defaulters and compensation to families that may lose beloved ones due to disobedience of these articulated vehicle owners, I think it has become imperative that the trucks be impounded and whatever commodity is being transported be auctioned and the proceeds given out as compensation to victims and their families. Additionally the owners and driver should be prosecuted and jailed without any option of fines. The government officials at various stations like NPA that allow passage of such trucks without the containers properly harnessed to the trailers should be prosecuted also. It is high time we start placing premium on our lives |

I laugh in Swahili, anytime I see an ardent APC supporter or party member, who claims that the so called Leadership(rulership) has sanitized the nation and has made the enforcement of law a norm. In every public institution, it is still business as usual, or worse, incivility has become the order of the day. In three months, the APC has turned the nation's civil service into a temple of Sodom and Gomorrah. Institutions that once were at least said to be a bit above average in terms of performance and accountability have now become Ground Zero. The Perm.Secs have now become Demigods, with the unflinching power to do as they please. Law enforcement has become a cash and carry business, with the people as the Human Cattle of the various security agencies. Even politicians now pay through their nose, for their cases to be swept under the rug. The various health care centres are slowly returning to the days of Moribund and i-don't-care-attitude. With all this, and the Lackadaisical approach of the government, how in God's name do you now expect the drivers of trailers who have always held the Lagos state government at the jugular, to respect the law handed down to them by a PUPPET TOOTHLESS POODLE. I weep for Nigeria, because the next three years-if the President doesn't sit up, and reintroduce sanity to the nation- will be like an eternity in HELL. |

What kind of senseless law is that.? Has he considered the economic negativity that will bring? They should have a proper control of heavy duty vehicle, with functional weighbridges and more congestion charges, pending on the routes. I don't think is properly thought of like most adhoc laws in Nigeria. First of all they should make the roads drivable and that will automatically ease up traffic 1 Like |

Why are we always quick to bring solution awkwardly to problems that we have? Instead of taking the long step in correcting our road problems, we are always quick to follow the short-cut. There are so many reasons why trailers wreck havoc in the society: from bad roads to overloading, to inexperienced drivers, to poorly maintained vehicles, to lack of institution of proper road usage for articulated vehicles, to lack of speed limits on our roads, to life span of vehicles et c., but nobody wants to invest time to look at it. Sometimes it seems as if the government is afraid of making some good money off defaulters, or else why should we go the ban way when we can make money from these trailers. Or government is afraid losing money to/from dishonest staff-- I have a not so bad plan. The nighttime this governor wants the trailer drivers to start operating is one whose abused effects during the daytime contribute majorly in road mishaps. Not every trailer accident is caused by brake failure; some are due to accumulated fatigue, a little napping on the wheel, stress et c. Why can't there be a law requiring that a trailer must have a driver, an asst. driver, and a trainee driver or conductor? There must be shifting between these drivers instead of one driver trying to be active in twenty hours out of twenty-four hours. To tell you the truth, it is high time the government stopped inflicting untold hardship on people when they are not ready to bring something on the table. If the tempo of this ban and what not is maintained, one day we may wake to the knowledge that our free movement has been infringed. A responsible government does not try to run away from problems rather it provides means of preventing, containing and solving problems. |

Don't think this Ambode guy knows what he is doing at all. The lawlessness in lagos is becoming something else. Okadas are fully back on the express with no disturbance at all. Danfo drivers park in the middle of the road to call passengers and Lastma won't arrest. Leadership is not by having a big fat head. This man needs to wake up and start working in lagos. The roads are do terrible. Chai! I just hate politicians. |
