IGP orders nationwide arrest of persons inciting violence

– The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr Solomon Arase, has ordered an immediate clampdown on persons or group of persons inciting violence and social disorder across the country.

This is contained in a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olabisi Kolawole, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police, in Abuja on Thursday.

The statement explained that the directive became imperative because of recent activities of members of the Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign States of Biafra (MASSOB) and the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in some parts of the country.

It said that the order empowered the police to arrest anybody fomenting any act of violence or disorder, or any act inimical to the security of the nation.

The statement said that the following arrests had been made ; Anambra four, Imo six, Delta11, and Abia one.

It further warned that all persons so arrested for inciting violence, irrespective of their class or status in the society would be charged to court accordingly.

This is a welcome development.

Some people take pleasure in heating up the polity with inflammatory statements all to attract attention.

In any case of sudden unrest or its similarities, they are on the next flight to london or ghana.

Social media and the blogospheric environment should be for information and social interaction, not for cursing or maligning or abuses or fanning embers of religious or ethnical violence and discrimination. even when we disagree, We ought to learn to make our points without resorting to calling each other all sorts of demeaning and unprintable names.

Its time we realize Nigeria is our only home.Lets build it. Enough of ethnic and racial statements.

I guess I won't have to define the word "treason" for you. This isn't the first time, you guys have tried killing yourselves and other Nigerians all in the name of "WANTING to establish your own nation"

Come to think of it, have you ever sworn "the oath" to defend this country from enemies within and outside? Oh yes you have even if you aren't in any force, you have; The National Pledge you recited as a kid, as A Corp member(if you ...) then you will have an idea of what I am talking about, not only would you be crushed this time around, but those that share the same treasonable ideology too.
