Ghana Suspends Sacking Of Nigerian Traders by Wale112(m): 3:29pm On Sep 08, 2015 |
Nigerian traders interested in operating in Ghana will no longer be required to raise a minimum capital of 300,000 dollars. This is according to President John Mahama. This comes after the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) and the Ministry of Trade and Industry tried to eject all foreigners operating in Ghanaian markets in 2014. This led to the setting up of an inter-agency task force established to enforce the new Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (GIPC) law 865 which authorizes petty trading as the sole prerogative of Ghanaians. The task force is made up of representatives from the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Trade and Industry, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Investment Promotion Centre, Accra Metropolitan Assembly, Registrar General’s Department, Social Security and National Insurance Trust, Ghana Revenue Authority – Domestic Customs and the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA). But the new protocol for the issuance of ECOWAS biometric cards entitles ECOWAS citizens to work in any country in the sub-region without any hindrance. In 2016, ECOWAS citizens will be issued with the regional bloc’s biometric identification card to ensure free movement of persons, and to promote security in the West African sub-region. “I think that our continued pursuit of greater regional integration is resolving the issue by itself. As you are aware we have agreed on the protocol for the issuance of the ECOWAS biometric cards to all ECOWAS citizens and that ECOWAS biometric card entitles ECOWAS citizens not only to visit but to reside and work in each other’s countries,” President John Mahama said at a Forum during a State visit by Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari. According to President Mahama, all attempts to eject Nigerian traders in Ghana automatically have been suspended. “The card would entitle automatically not only Nigerians but all ECOWAS citizens to the right of abode in Ghana if they decided to do so and that automatically will trigger an amendment of the law that requires the capital of 300,000 dollars,” he stressed. www.ghanaweb.com/GhanaHomePage/business/Ghana-suspends-sacking-of-Nigerian-traders-380558 3 Likes 2 Shares |

With the way this government and it's supporters celebrate mediocrity and petty news eh, if they were jonathan who on his first foreign visit to the u.s successfully negotiated the removal of nigeria from the list of terror countries, they will send astronauts to the moon to embellish it for every living thing in planet earth to see. Pathetic lot!! 2 Likes |

That stipulation must have been placed because of the body language of GEJ that permitted and supported corruption. His regime was an era when swalliwags and nincopoops travelled to Abuja on the back o articulated trucks or borrowed #5000 to return to their communities as made looters. Next, they ported to Ghana, UAE, China etc to squander dollars on questionable business ventures to hide their loot. And of course, Ghana capitalised because they know the game plan of our looters. 2 Likes |

docadams:The past governments have been biased and shoddy in their dealings.. When the Ghana president said Nigeria is Practising over protectionism and being a bully . Nigerians took it the other way round.. Ecowas has provided the ground for internal integration, but despite that fact. Nigeria banned a lot of Ghanaian goods and business from entering Nigeria. Using a lot of grounds to suite their reason. Of which a lot of big men were behind. Because of the fear of competition. Trying to play smart and all. In turn the Ghana gov said pay 300k if you want to enter the market. Sounds outrageous.. Yeah.. Well there is no smoke without fire. I believe that buhari visit will do a lot and foster a positive relationship amongst the two countries 1 Like |
