Hence: lets count the square that enclose all as 1, you could notice 4 squares if u regard symmetry lines dividing enclosing square making it=5 & there are 16 smaller squares considering the squares formed by the lines of symmetry of the 4 squares got from symmetry line of the enclosing square....Totalling 21 squares.... Removing 4 little squares @ the edge of the big enclosing square you will notice something like a +... From that + there is 4 over lapping squares totalling 25...
Now there are 2 visible little blocks drawn along vertical symmetry of the big enclosing square and each square has 4 smaller squares(the tinyest of all the squares) this will make the total number of squares to be 35...taking a look at the + discussed above there is 1 square formed due to the over laps of the 4 squares this square is just @ the middle of the enclosing square(biggest square)...now there is 36 squares
