I agree with you that on the short term, it would feel catastrophic but the country would be better in the long haul.

To a certain extent I think this shale oil viability is more speculation than anything. The oil cartel need to get together and make this oil scarce, let us see how fast shale oil can produce to fill the gap. Cheaper oil by the barrel makes country's that would have paid more, get the oil at a cheaper rate.
