Using Your Cv To Buy Credit Cards. by segoye2(m): 7:08pm On Oct 05, 2006
In despiration to get something doing, Nigerians search for jobs like tomorrow will never come.
And lately, what they do is forward their CV's to any advert. They don't even care if is a Yahoo Yahoo Advert.
But, I appreciate that here in Nairaland, Landers search properly before posting their CV's. Though some post even not minding what the consiquence will look like. But one thing I must say here is sending you CV is more deadly than death itself.
I want to ask Landers if they have heard about Identity Theft before?
Yah, someone might resume your Identity somewhere in the world while you are still here searching for Job in Nigeria. Is funny to some I know, while lots of Landers here are aware of online identity theft.
For instance, if you want to buy a credit card (getting a credit card), you don't even need be there. All you need do is supply them with you information. And when the case arises that you must be there, this Identity Theft Operators can claim they are buying the card for their brother or sister. With you CV, One can buy a credit card and incure 40-60 thousand credit or interest which even a white man can not pay in 20 years. And when you are up in glory someday in future, someone might just work up to you and remind you of the dept you never incure claiming you bought this and that some 5 or 8 years back.
Brethren, let us wise up. Jobs we will definitely get, but forwarding your CV to hummmmmmmm, , Beware ooo!!!!
Lots of Love.
You all are doing great.!!!!

The question of knowing the real and fake sites should not arise. He has said it all, dont go about sending your resumes to just any site, besdies most genuine websites have the address and site map at the bottom of the page, so you can check that to be double sure that you dont get scammed or duped.Shine ya eye. shocked

Thanks for all your replies.  I wrote a post on how to know the owner of the site you are viewing or visiting. Read the tips Bellow:-
Brethren,
How are we all doing. I read through so many comments of job seekers on our naira land. And one thing is sure that almost all job seekers are afraid of Reapers. Yah, Yahoo boys are out there, some are even on the naira land. But we can cope and detect them.
Here are some tips.
If anyone tells you he/she has a job to offer or is a consultant or something, first ask him of his Location, Phone number, company profile and above all website address.
Meanwhile, You can know the owner of any website, when it was created, when it will expire, the admin information, and lots more if you follow this tips:-
type www.godaddy.com on a new browser or internet explorer.
as soon as it opens go daddy page, on the Domain Search Box,
type the name of the site excluding www. and from the front drop-down, select if is .com , .org, .net , .mil or dot whatever.
click Go.
----- It will open a window where you will be notified that the domain is already taken. Instead of typing another website address, click on (click here for info)
It will open a new browser and this new browser (Whois Privacy Statement), on the right conner of the middle page, you will be asked to fill in a given numbers usually 6  like (23878290) then click OK or enter.
Right in front of you, you have all the informations you need about all this their funny sites.
AND TO ALL AOL EXPLORER USERS, is easy while on AOL. All you need do is click on the Security on your AOL Explorer and select who owns this site.
Its worth trying and If it works for you, remember to teach others too.
Goodluck

Email
Spam
When it comes to email, the biggest invasion of privacy is spam or unsolicited junk mail. Increasingly, people and companies send mass email mailings to thousands of people to try and get them to buy something, get them job(s) or to visit a Web site. Consider the following:
According to a recent MSNBC article (opens in a new browser window), MessageLabs Inc. is referenced as saying that 2/3 of all email traffic is spam.
McAfee reports (opens in a new browser window) that "49% of Americans spend more than 40 minutes per week deleting spam, with 14% reporting they spend as much as three and a half hours a week -- or 7.5 days per year -- on this task."
In general, it's best not to respond to spam or mail from someone you do not know. Certainly, don't follow any links or purchase products that were advertised in this mail. By responding, you tell the sender that your email is in fact valid. Frequently, you may find your email address on even more lists. And more lists mean more spam.
You don't know who sent the unsolicited email. The presence of a return address does not mean that it's a legitimate email address. So never send a photograph of yourself or any personal information -- including credit card information -- to someone you don't know. And never buy anything advertised via spam, even if it is a good offer.
Report any activity that appears to be illegal to EFCC (Though I don't know how reliable they are still)
File Attachments
If you receive an unsolicited commercial message, you should not open any attached file whose name ends in ".exe." Clicking on such files could activate a computer virus that might affect how your computer operates and/or damage the information stored on your computer. You can also protect yourself against viruses carried by e-mail or by computer files that you've received on a floppy disk, by purchasing and installing on your computer or network a virus-protection program.
Delete any email that contains suspicious file attachments.

Hackers
As we rely more and more on computers, and continue to put sensitive information onto them, the potential for hackers to break into them and steal or destroy personal and financial information grows. This is particularly true if you have a cable modem or DSL connection, where your IP address rarely changes. You are essentially always online, even though you may not be browsing on the Internet.
Hackers use automated tools like IP address searches to look for computers connected to the Internet. Once found, they attempt break in and then take control of the computer, allowing them to interrupt service and/or commit identity theft.
Am going to post more information about Hackers and Hacking soon!!!.
You can also protect your computer by using a firewall utility. We'll discuss this option in greater detail in Module 16 of this course.

Identity Theft
It's fairly easy for criminals to obtain personal data. Have you seen the commercial where the guy is looking through his neighbor's trash can to find a payroll receipt? How many of us simply throw this or credit card and bank statements in the garbage without thinking? It's probably more than anyone would care to admit. These records make it easy for criminals to get control over accounts in your name and assume your identity.
Identity theft occurs when someone obtains and then uses your personal information without your permission to commit fraud or other crimes. Such activities may include fraudulent use of credit cards, fraudulent withdrawals from bank accounts, or false applications for loans and credit cards.
The Internet has become a very attractive place for scammers or criminals to obtain such information as passwords and banking information. Unfortunately, home users frequently give out personal information if requested. Families broadcast their email on the Internet, respond to spam, or even become the target of hacking attacks.
What To Do If You Are A Target of Identity Theft Or Fraud
Act immediately if you think you've become a victim of identity theft! Quick action will minimize the extent of damage to your personal funds and financial accounts.
File a complaint on EFCC Official Website (www.efccnigeria.org)
If you send in your account Informations or Credit Card information, Contact all creditors and financial institutions of those accounts that have been tampered or opened fraudulently.
Monitor your mail and credit-card bills for evidence of new fraudulent activity (If you got any).
File a police report.
Top 10 Ways to Avoid Becoming a Victim Of Identity Theft
Don't give out personal information to others.
Check your financial information regularly.
Periodically request a copy of your credit report.
Maintain careful records of your banking and financial accounts.
Update your virus protection software regularly, or when a new virus alert is announced.
Do not download files sent to you by strangers or click on hyperlinks from people you don't know.
Use a firewall program, especially if you use a high-speed Internet connection like cable modem or DSL.
Use a secure browser -- software that encrypts or scrambles information you send over the Internet -- to guard the security of your online transactions.
Try not to store financial information on your computer unless absolutely necessary.
Look for Web site privacy policies.
