Alleged N200m CBN, El’rufai Bribe: Coalition Dissociates Self From Protest by DickDastardly(m): 4:35am On Sep 16, 2015 |
The Coalition of Civil Society Groups (CCSG) has dissociated itself from a proposed protest and media blackmail currently going on against the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emiefele, and the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El’Rufai, over an alleged exchange of a N200million bribe. The group in a press statement signed by its national president, Comrade Etuk Bassey Williams, and made available to journalists in Abuja yesterday, condemned what it termed an act of propaganda against public office holders, saying the group cannot be dragged into the protest or unjustifiable campaign against innocent citizens. He said his group has since discovered that the allegations were motivated by witch-hunt aimed at settling political scores. He stated that though the coalition appreciates the good works of whistle-blowers, it must be with genuine information that will aid justice and national development devoid of character assassination and integrity damage. Bassey said: “We condemn this act of propaganda and blackmail against public office holders. While we appreciate the good work of whistle-blowers, we also expect from them genuine information that will aid justice and national development devoid of character assassination and integrity damage. We warn again that no individual or organisation should send false information to us in the name of fighting corruption.” He further urged Nigerians to stop peddling rumours to destroy the reputation of highly placed Nigerians just to settle political scores. He added that writing petitions against one of the best state governors in the current administration and a sitting CBN governor that is being adjudged one of the best because of his financial policies was uncalled for as this will only distract them. A group, Arewa Youth Movement for Good Governance (AYMGG), in a magazine publication, had accused the duo of Godwin Emiefele and El’Rufai of exchanging a bribe to the tune of N200million to help persuade the president to retain the CBN governor. source: http://leadership.ng/news/461365/alleged-n200m-cbn-elrufai-bribe-coalition-dissociates-self-from-protest 1 Like 2 Shares |
