OAU SU LEADERSHIP GOOFS..

I read with utter dismay the rejoinder signed by members of the parliament and CEC of Great Ife Students' Union sent to the media as a reply to the allegations levelled against them (Budget Inflation). I make bold to assert that it is a total ploy to deceive members of the public, gain public sympathy and bury their case. They dare not paste such statements on campus because students are very much aware of the truth.

It is saddening and lamentable to realize that these elements were so desperate to cover their misdeeds to the extent of spewing lies to the social media.

THE TRUE STORY
The Union Leadership (Central Executive Council, Student Representative Council and the Hall Executive Council) presented their annual budget to the B & F Committee that read in excess of 26 million naira. The Budget is available to all students and anybody that wishes to see it. The B & F slashed the budget and presented it at the parliamentary sitting held on Sunday 14th September, 2015 at the level of Awolowo Hall Café. The slashed budget was however still outrageous. After much agitation and outright rejection by conscious students and few parliamentarians, a motion was moved and supported by progressive parliamentarians that the budget should be referred back to the B & F to work on again and be presented later at another sitting. The sitting was afterwards adjourned.

It is very important to note and state that as at Monday 15th September, 2015, these set of union leaders were still defending the exorbitant budget. However, when it became subject of public debate, they were pushed to cook up lies and deny the presentation of such bogus budget.

In the statement signed by the Union Leaders, they failed to deny or confirm whether they actually presented such outrageous budget but used the PDP/APC-like manner of replying allegations by terming the allegations as mere propaganda and a ploy by some people to tarnish their image. The fact that they could not defend the budget is enough proof to show that the budget is not justified.

The members of the public should not be deceived and confused by the union leadership as they are corrupt and selfish individuals. They see unionism as a panacea to poverty.

As at now, students are angry and disappointed in them. They can no longer walk confidently on campus. They dare not go to halls of residence and sell such lies before students. They can only sell such cheap lies to the innocent public.

The members of the public should also understand that these elements (Central Executive Council) have been spending money from the union's account autonomously without the consent of the parliament which is grossly against the traditions of our Union.

We also demand that the members of the Press come down to OAU campus and conduct an open interview for the Union leaders at the level of Awolowo Hall Café and see whether they can repeat such rejoinder before ever-gallant students.
