The Military in Burkina Faso which is made up of Presidential Guard have captured the Interim President and other government leaders in the country and they made the announcement this Thursday that they had dissolved the country’s political institutions and are set to to organize “inclusive elections”.

The announcement was made on National TV by Lieutenant-Colonel Mamadou Bamba who declared that a new “National Democratic Council” had decided to put a stop “to the deviant regime of transition” and that they have stripped the interim president of his powers.

He further stated that the National Transition committee has been dissolved and that talks are going to form a new government … to lead to inclusive and peaceful elections,” he added.

Presidential guards loyal to the interim president were the arrow head of this coup. While the cabinet meeting was going on between the president Michel Kafando, Prime Minister Isaac Zida and two ministers. They are reported to have burst into the meeting and seized everyone in that meeting.

The European Union and the UN Secretary General had since condemned the action and are seeking the immediate release of the captured government officials
