In March 2015, the New York Times reported that white mercenaries from South Africa and other countries had joined the fight against Boko Haram in north-east Nigeria. The mercenaries were alleged to be involved in direct combat with Boko Haram fighters, although the Nigerian government disputed this and instead claimed they were only offering technical support.

The Nigeria Security Network would like to ask Nairalanders a few questions about your views on these reports. Our aim is to understand whether Nigerians support or oppose using foreign mercenaries, and why. This will help us to understand which approaches to tackling the insurgency can gain popular support and legitimacy.
