My laptop (hp pavilion dv5-1050ei) wont boot past d hp logo screen. It keeps restarting after dt. I can get into bios bt dats all. I dual boot ubuntu 8.10 with windows 7. Have removd & fixd d ram 2 no avail. Also ran d hp harddisk & memory test which tells me dt they r both okay. Booting wit cd workd which showed me all my partions meaning dt d hardisk is gd. Pls wot do i do?

from what u jst described it cld jst be that u no longer hv a boot sector or u tampered wiv ur boot.ini one way or the other. . . try downloading hirens bootdisk or any of them other bootdisks if u can. . .

yes i susect that you've overwritten your mbr (master boot ecord); tell me which did you install last ubuntu or windows 7 either way use the installation disk of the last os to repair
unfortunately i haven't used windows 7 before in fact the last windows os i installed was xp so am not sure of the steps involved in using win7 to repair your mbr

windows cannot find its master boot record (MBR). since u can boot from ur cd, i will suggest u download 'EasyBcd' and try to reinstall the MBR. but dat means ubuntu will no longer boot. in which case u will av to reinstall it , and u need to b careful when choosing boot loaders. mak sure u always select windows as the primary boot loader.

My own sugestion is that u shud change the screen or remove the Hp logo. lol
