For those who do not know, Kakaki in Yoruba is the Palace trumpet or horn used to herald the King's procession in a public appearance, particularly in ceremonial outing, or a parade, when the King comes out with full Palace colors.

I grew up in Oko Awo and on Eyo days we would run up the street with our little legs to assemble at Enu Owa. This was a gathering place for all the children in the area, from Ojo Giwa, Pedro, Obanikoro....we ran uphill and assemble at the crossroad of Obun Eko and Idungaran. The King's procession comes up that route and all Eyos come up that route, even Adimu come up on that route but children are dismissed from the area long hours before its time for Adimu to come out.

The Palace is downhill and not far from Enu Owa and we can't see the procession that far away because of human traffic and activities on the street but we can hear the Kakaki sound as Oba prepares to come out. It gets louder as they approach our sitting area. The women join in the chorus and start dancing and singing....

"ki lan f'Oba pe, Oba o Oba al'Ashe, Oba.....Oba to d'Ade Owo, Oba to wo Ewu Ege, Oba o Oba al'Ashe, Oba"

Meanwhile it's raining colorful sweets and baloons over the children...red, yellow, blue, green, pink, orange... I loved it! grin

I noticed how everyman would take off hat, shoe....however old he is...and prostrate to the waving, smiling Oba. Women take off their gele and go on their knees. They remained in this position until Oba is couple of steps past. Trailing behind Oba are the princes, princesses, Chiefs, all in colorful attires. Wow!

I don't know what Saraki means or the ceremony around the name. We cannot deny that it has become a prominent name of prominent influence, locally in Ilorin and nationally in Nigeria. Therefore we must accord that name some honour. Man is not permanent but his deeds are and lives a lot longer after he has passed on. The deeds of Olusola Saraki produced fruits which Bukola Saraki, his son subsists on today. The legacy of Saraki does not belong to Bukola alone. Many households in Ilorin are beneficiaries of the honour in that name. If an unknown person anywhere carries a letter written and signed with the name Saraki to any government house in any state in Nigeria he will receive access and hospitality....this is honour!

Among Yorubas, name has far more power and priority above any worldly posessions because our names are also our Oriki and the anchor into relationship with others in the environment and society.

There is a Kakaki sound heralding the arrival of a new King in Nigeria. Those who hear its sound knows what it means and instinctively know what to do....but it appears one man in particular does not care to respect and respond to the sound. Bukola is a prodigal child and is on the verge of destroying the virtues of his family name and its far reaching influence.

I call on Saraki to take off his hat, his shoe and yield the political path for the King's procession....in few steps it will move past him and he can then put his hat and shoe back on.

I am yet to see a citizen go to court and challenge why he must bow to a King. If one exist in history it will not be a victory for the litigant.

Saraki and his supporting Senators cannot win against a government with the political might and resources (money, time and manpower) to eavesdrop on you, surveill you, audit your income for tax purpose and influence your victory at the polling booth.

Bukola has money and influence but lacks political wisdom. Politics is at the root of his problem.....he cannot win using legal opposition. Bukola should yield to Buhari and the party and go along with their direction for the Senate.

This is just an opinion.

A well written article.

Maturity is not the old age of somebody. Maturity sets in, when you get a self realization, of what is wrong and right, what to do and what not to do. This maturity we are talking about, has apparently not gotten to Saraki yet, but he will get a on the job training, and will overnight become mature.

The Mistake Saraki keeps making, is to think the Senate is Kwara State.

If the election to becoming the Senate President is held today, Saraki will lose woefully. Those that orchestrated the Kangaroo election, that made him the Senate President are now regretting their actions, and that is why he is being left to hang and dry by himself in the Sun, by his so called faithfuls.

Saraki will learn that the Amala Politics of Kwara, will not work in Abuja, as the People of Abuja are used to Tuwo Shinkafa, and not Amala.
