A 42-year-old man was on Saturday killed by a strange thunderstorm at Sabon Titi Community in Tunga area of Minna, the Niger State capital, during a football training‎
It was gathered that the victim, Mallam Mohammed Lawal Jibo, told his family members he was going for his usual football training at the Police Barrack football pitch in Minna.
The incident, which took place during a heavy down pour on Saturday, claimed Jibo’s life.
There was said to have been lightening and thunderstorm.
Our Correspondent gathered that other footballers who went for training were affected by the thunderstorm, but it was only Jibo who fell and hit his forehead against the ground and died instantly.
Eyewitnesses, who were still in shock, confirmed that some spectators who survived, rushed into the field to revive Jibo, but could not resuscitate him as he died immediately after the mysterious strike.
An elder brother of the deceased, Alhaji Usman Jibo, who spoke on behalf of the family, told our Correspondent that it would take the entire family sometime to forget what befell the family.
According to him: “I have lost some relatives and close ones in the past, but the death of Mohammed is the most shocking as it will not depart from me.
“His closeness to me can never be quantified.
