The Skyward Express is to operate from Wilson Airport, Eldoret International Airport and Lodwar Airstrip four days a week with the introduction of another domestic flight from Nairobi to the North Rift expected to boost both trade and tourism in the vast region.

Airline Chairman Mohamed Somo, stated during the launching of the route at an Eldoret Hotel that the flight seeks to make business easy between the capital and North Rift.

“Skyward comes in to create regular flights between Nairobi and the North Rift. The region is fast-becoming a business hub and we are coming in with regular flights throughout the day to support economic growth,” Somo said.

He said the decision to venture into the region was made because there are only morning and evening flights linking the far North and Nairobi via Eldoret.

He added that Fly 540 has fixed flights linking Eldoret, Lodwar and Nairobi in the morning and evening. JamboJet only links Nairobi and Kisumu via Eldoret.

Somo noted that devolution, agriculture and discovery of oil deposits in the North Rift positions the region as one of the biggest business hubs in East Africa.

Commenting on the event, Chief Guest and Elgeyo Marakwet Governor Alex Tolgos said the flights would spur growth of tourism thereby earning counties more revenue.
