Harry Kane ended his 13-hour wait for a goal as Tottenham thrashed Manchester City 4-1 and sealed a third successive Premier League win.

The England striker made it 3-1 on 61 minutes after Christian Eriksen's free-kick bounced back off the crossbar, as Spurs brilliantly came from behind following Kevin de Bruyne's first-half opener.

De Bruyne was marginally offside as he finished off a swift City break on 25 minutes, and the officials failed to spot another offside as Eric Dier equalised for the hosts on the stroke of half-time.

But there was nothing wrong with Toby Alderweireld's header that put Spurs in front before Eric Lamela brilliantly rounded the Willy Caballero to bag his side's fourth late on.

City set up to deliberately use their superb defensive record - the best in the league before kick-off - and hit Tottenham on the break, but they only really hurt the hosts once in this fashion, when they scored the opener.

After neat Spurs moves had twice set-up Lamela for shooting chances, Kyle Walker gave the ball away on the edge of the City box and allowed Yaya Toure to break with pace before slotting in De Bruyne, whose right leg was offside before firing into the bottom corner.

But Spurs hit back immediately, with Heung-Min Son forcing Caballero into a save, and they deserved to go in level at the break, despite Walker being some four yards offside in the build-up to their 45th-minute leveller.

Walker was slotted through on the right-hand side and then crossed for Son, whose shot was smothered by Cabellero, but the ball was cleared only as far as Dier, and the midfielder rifled home his second goal of the season via the post.

Tottenham remained on top after the interval, and after Kane was felled wide on the right-hand side, Alderweireld nodded in his first goal of the season from Lamela's excellent delivery, giving Spurs a 50th-minute lead.

Lamela wrapped up an emphatic victory with a deserved goal of his own when his tenacity beat the last defender just inside the box, and then the outstretched Cabellero, before he fired into an empty net with 11 minutes remaining.
