10 Mistakes Students Make In Their Prayers To God by Nobody: 12:30pm On Sep 28, 2015
Prayer is simply communication between us and God and it is the practice of many of us, as humans. We want to tell God what bothers us and also what to Him in action in our lives. A lot of students make some common mistakes when they pray to God either for wisdom, knowledge, understanding, financial supply and a host of other things. Let's explore 10 of those common mistakes students make while praying:

1. Wrong Reasons and Impure Motives:

Sometimes, in life we pray for the wrong reasons and with the wrong motives. This is a common prayer mistake students make. We often get sidetracked with our motives and ask God for things for the wrong reasons such as because someone else has it, or we ask for things that are unworthy of God's blessing.

2. Misunderstanding the Meaning of Prayer:

Students especially those of us that were brought in homes where our parents gave us everything we ever wanted can often mistake prayer for some activity where you just ask a Genie for all you need and he responds "Your wish is my command". Prayer is more than that. It is also communicating with a Being who has a Will and a Mind of His own and that entails developing a relationship.

3. Unclean Heart:

Coming before a holy God requires that we keep our hearts clean as we approach Him. God accepts us just as we are but He also requires that we come before Him with a clean heart.

4. Misinterpretation of Answers:

When ask God for an A in a course and we end up seeing a C in the course. We often conclude that God did not answer our prayers but we forget to ask ourselves whether the C is a wake-up call telling us that we need to study more or change our study patterns.

5. Taking a 'No' or Silence the Wrong Way:

When God puts obstacles in the way of your getting the results you want, in other words when His answer is a No to your request or when He seems to keep silent, as students we often begin to get angry at God but forget that He functions on a multi-dimensional time plane and therefore sees our future. This is a very rampant prayer mistake we make.

6. Underestimating the Power of Prayer:

We've been talking about the group of students who pray to God concerning their academic endeavors and other things they feel will lead them to a successful life but there is also a group of students who feel they can do without God. This is also an error in itself made by a lot of students. There's just too much uncertainty in the world and much more to gain than there is to lose from believing in the power of prayer.

7. Not Listening to ourselves:

Many of us pray to God without listening to ourselves, we just chant the same words over and over again, a communication that would be considered insane had we been conversing with a contemporary. We ought to say whatever we say to God like we mean it and know what we are really saying.

8. Getting Distracted:

7 in every 10 students that pray can relate to this one and it's normal for every human to every once in a while get distracted when communicating with someone especially in a situation where the Person is difficult to perceive with our natural senses. But, when we value the relationship we have with the person, we always endeavor to avoid being distracted in our conversations. God should be no different.

9. Not listening when God speaks:

God does respond to our prayers but he does that in different ways and those of us who have been in a relationship with Him for a while now must have been able to identify how he responds to us. If we really care what God thinks, we should hear Him out and act in accordance to His response.

10. Not believing and trusting:

You don't ask someone you trust for something and when he or she replies in the affirmative, you still doubt you have received the desired result even if his or her response is not yet tangible. A lot of students pray without really believing God can give them what they was and that's an error likewise that renders the prayer ineffective.
