Amosun allegedly stalls blogger's bail

Ogun governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun may have stalled bail granted a blogger, Emmanuel Ojo by a Chief Magistrate Court sitting in Abeokuta.

Ojo was arrested by the Chief Security Officer to the Governor, Katib Bilamin on Saturday at Ibara in Abeokuta and detained till Tuesday when he charged to the court.

Ojo, who was slammed with 8-count charge bothering on libel and malicious publication against Mrs Olufunso Amosun was, however, granted bail by the Presiding Magistrate.

But by 4pm when Ojo's lawyers met the bail conditions, the Magistrate was said to have allegedly declined to sign the bail documents.

Indications that Amosun had been pestering the Magistrate not to grant the bail emerged during the proceeding when some people suspected to be his personal aides had wanted to give a note to the Magistrate which he did not receive. In fact, he was angry and shouted at them to allow him do his work.

Ojo was granted bail around 11am but by 4pm when all the conditions including two sureties with N1m each were met, the Magistrate seemed to have developed a cold feat and asked them to come back tomorrow.

Ojo, who had earlier heaved a sigh of relief was immediately whisked back to the prison.

Ojo's sin was his alleged involvement in the story of Mrs Olufunsho Amosun, who was allegedly quizzed by London Police for money laundering and being in possession of US300,000, the allegation which government has denied.

Informed sources said Amosun was not happy with the charges and had vowed to keep Ojo in prison even when he had been granted bail by a court of competent jurisdiction.

A Senior Lawyer who pleaded for anonymity described Amosun's action as a slap on the judiciary and depicts him as somebody who does not have respect for the rule of law.

This was the press freedom we all took for granted under Jonathan.

I can wager that this blogger could be among those who were casting damaging aspersions on Jonathan inexorably.

Unfortunately, everyone wouldn't be like Jonathan who allowed his tolerant nature to prevail instead of clamping down on critics.

Meanwhile, Nigerians should expect more clampdown in the coming days.

It is good for the blogger because he and few members of his lineage might have voted for the dumbass governor under the banner of APC.

Contrary, Ojo was on PDP team in Ogun state.
