Lagos, Nigeria’s port and commercial center, is notorious for its chronic traffic congestions and terrible accidents. Lagos is the only city of its size in the world that doesn’t have a city-wide rail system. That’s 15 to 21 million people (no one knows exactly how many) who are forced to commute by road only everyday. Exposing motorists, passengers/pedestrians to long hours of heat and inhalation of harmful vehicle emissions. cc: : Afam4eva,OAM4J,dominique 15 Likes 6 Shares

1. Amphibious buses/cars(Netherlands, China). If the Government/Ministry of transport or private transport company can provide hundreds of these to move people in lagos to and fro where necessary. (Not familiar with Lagos, but you guys will know exactly where necessary). 48 Likes 5 Shares

5. Bike sharing(Netherlands, London). Will this work? Imagine having thousands of bikes littering about a hundred bike stations across Lagos or VI. Instead of adding your car to the traffic, you can just stroll to the nearest bike station to your house, pick a bike, cycle to work and drop it off at the nearest bike station to your office. Like that again when you're going home 52 Likes 3 Shares

@Explorers, good work but the main problem I see is our psychological difference. The way the policy makers reason in this our part of the world calls for concern. Development is only sustainable if it is culturally sustainable, that amphibious vehicle is good but the problem with the government is ownership. Government should hand over this kind of things to existing operators and concern itself with monitoring and regulation. The road problem is rooted in the cost of our road construction and this will hinder us a lot. 37 Likes 4 Shares |

Haven't lived in England for some years and travelled around Europe. There are a lot of transport systems that can remove traffic congestion in Lagos but will they invest in it? I doubt it. Lemme mention a few to add to the OP's own. Cable Car system, Tram system, Ferry with the ones the OP mentioned Overground and Underground train even though it will take so long and massive investment in building underground tunnels and stations. The power sector is still bad so alot of these projects is not sustainable. The bottomline is that these idiots in govt have to stop stealing money and invest in massive infrastructure and planning. Try checking out transport for London( tfl.gov.uk) and see how a good city transport system is planned. 23 Likes |

I've always said it and will continue say it that we've got a bunch of dumb ass leaders...cos I can't really see any sense in them seeing as things are outside the country when they travel and can't think of replicating such here...when they conduct feasibility study as in what it costs to set up these things I don't think it needs some sort of rocket science. But they won't. Instead they embezzle the money and send it out of the shores of the country to keep enriching the other countries. Kudos Explorer...following you bumper to bumper. 31 Likes 2 Shares |
