It will take a lot of orientation and rebranding to appropriate these fantastic ideas.

We are talking about a Lagos where people see commercial bus drivers and commuters as POOR people.

How about the train? The average Nigerian feels trains are meant for people who cannot afford AC fitted buses or private cars. GEJ tried to rebrand this aspect (at least we saw celebrities on train) but he was booted out of office in the name of corruption.

Fantastic ideas @OP but do not expect 'these' in this generation. Let's pray we don't raise more TINUBUs & SARAKIs.
u started like u are damn Gud but end it in a wrong nd shallow way if reasoning. kick who boot who out in the name of corruption ? you better do your findings well before ranting.

if lagos government have money to compensate people because gov will have to demolish people house, electric lines relocation etc. but the slow method of construction and poor funding to contractors will make it a bad investment Eg the light rail badagry Expressway...
I think other underdeveloped State should be working towards planning of road/drainage before allocation of lands to avoid unnecessary expenses for compensation later.
when they need to sell all the land? in some estates in Lagos, no green areas, no parks or shops and offices....it is just residential buildings everywhere...to think that we relegate urban planners right from schools and d idea of greed will not help.

Luas (Irish pronunciation: ˈl̪ˠuəsˠ]; Irish for "speed" is a tram/light rail system in Dublin, Ireland, which in 2014 carried 32.4 million passengers.

If our leaders can get 500 of this to 9ja, bring on the oyinbos to come and train them in 9ja how to drive them, cos if you send our people from Nigeria to come for training, they might run and may not return to Nigeria after training. grin grin

5. Bike sharing(Netherlands, London).

Will this work?

Imagine having thousands of bikes littering about a hundred bike stations across Lagos or VI. Instead of adding your car to the traffic, you can just stroll to the nearest bike station to your house, pick a bike, cycle to work and drop it off at tht the nearest bike station to your office. Like that again when you're going home undecided

This will work if it's provided to staff of reputable companies.
Most of them can afford the bikes and their company can vouch for them.
That way people will like to use it because you know people on it can actually afford it.

we just need mentality orientation (V.C of a university rides bicycle to school in even US).
the tax system that would work better is the more cars an individual own the greater the tax Eg 1car=5% tax then 2cars=15% tax

A good suggestion.

But trust Nigerians to go round this. Every one of their kid will own a car, even the housemaid thereby reducing their tax burden.

Better still, impose heavy tax on each individual cars.

it is working in Germany so it would work in nigeria if we embrace it and not have black an mentality of "a whole me with suit riding bicycle to work".
especially in lagos(CMS to...)
Reducing the amount of cars on the way which means less traffic

i like your optimism. its someone like you we need more in lagos. people dat can ride bike from badagry to ajah to and fro monday to saturday. welldone.

@roughly $2m/kilometre plus construction time delay, logistics and other yada, yada, yadas, lets assume that a good railway system ( while still the 'bestest' option out of the quagmire) might take a while; how about getting tens or hundreds of modern ferries, with modern docking and boarding stations, while putting beyond standard safety measures in place?

Will the commuters have to pay at the point of collecting the bicycles or at the point of parking them.??
The later option would be more preferable. They would be documented at the point of collection though, but payment should be at the point of parking.

After seeing how beautiful and fun life is outside this country, I begin to wonder if our politicians have conscience and human sympathy since most of them have only 50 or more years to live yet they keep stacking away billions while the masses suffer for it.

With so much money lying idle in govt coffers, why won't lootocrates do thing?
The underground rail or any other modern rail requires electricity to run but how much many billions did Obasanjo and GEJ" sink" into power that has not worked?
Let govt give us stable power and see how Nigerians (many in diaspora will return with ideas and knowledge and even resources, together with local manpower) will transform Nigeria overnight. But the politicians won't allow until we arise and stone them.

Is it not funny that the same black people will run to UK, USA, etc where we join buses and trains without thinking twice about it

How many Nigerian can ride a Bicycle

It's thinking like this that impedes progress. Learning to ride a bike is much less complicated than learning to drive; they'll manage.
