Akwa Ibom born, Nigeria’s Super Eagles captain, Vincent Enyeama, is a name to be reckoned with in the world of football with his goal keeping heroics being recognized around the world.

Vincent Enyeama may be the captain of the Nigerian national team and many may boast of knowing him well but here are ten things you probably didn’t know about him:

1) Vincent Enyeama made his debut for the Nigeria national football team in a match against Kenya in May 2002.
2) He was selected for the 2002 FIFA World Cup as a substitute goalkeeper for Ike Shorunmu
3) During his spell with Enyimba International F.C, he was always substituted before penalty shootouts.
4) He currently plays his club football for French club Lille OSC.
5) In his first season with Israeli club, Bnei Yehuda, the team qualified for the final of the Israel State Cup and achieved fourth place in the Israeli Premier League, which qualified the team for the 2006 UEFA Cup.
6) Enyeama signed for Hapoel Tel Aviv in 2007 and helped the team to avoid relegation and reach the state cup final in his first season.
7) During his second season with Hapoel, the club almost won the league title, with Enyeama winning the “Player of The Year” award – although he is a goalkeeper.
8 ) In his third season with Hapoel, the club won the Double, with Enyeama scoring an advantage goal during the Cup Final.
9) On 18 August 2010, Vincent Enyeama scored his first goal of the 2010–11 season with a penalty against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League qualifiers.
10) In 2004 Enyeama was involved in a car accident in Uyo, southeast Nigeria, in which two motorcycle passengers were killed. Despite the severity of the accident, Enyeama only came out with bruises after the car somersaulted twice as it swerved to avoid the motorbike.

Vincent Enyeama, is the most capped footballer for the Nigerian national team and unarguably the most successful Nigerian goalkeeper. More importantly he’s just an Akwa Ibomite like everyone who pursued his passion to great heights.

What’s your passion? Do not give up on it, for nothing is impossible if the passion is right.
