UNESCO Revealed That 35 Percent Of Nigeria’s Population Are Illiterates by Esthersblog(f): 2:54pm On Oct 02, 2015
Nigeria’s Population is presently about 185million. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) revealed that 65million Nigerians are still illiterates, which is about 35percent of the total population. This means that 65 million people in Nigeria do not have the ability to identify, understand, interpret, create, communicate and compute, using printed and written materials associated with varying contexts. In simple terms, they do not have the ability to read and write.

In effort to eradicate illiteracy, the government should try as much as possible to take the necessary steps to eradicate poverty, create mediums where people should be given awareness as to why education is important. Funds should also be provided by the government to build more schools in remote areas of the country. Individuals can also assist in eradicating illiteracy in the country by giving scholarships or organise educational funds given to the appropriate medium. Illiteracy is a disease that needs to be eradicated in Nigeria.
