Are they called actuarial scientist or actuary/actuarial? Though I didn't study actuarial science, I did intro to actuarial science as a course and believe me actuarial science is a nice field which application to real life situation is vast. Would've studied the course, but unilag was making a big deal of it by requesting for a credit in further maths at ssce level.

I'm a trained Actuary. Studied Actuarial Science/Insurance. About going for M.sc in Act. Sc in UK. This field is so so unexploited in Nigeria. Just get in it and u'll get offers you wouldn't even believe. Everybody wanna go for big big courses, but I know what I've got.

yes boss, thats very true...i attended a seminar by TAF consult head Mr Debo Ajayi in my dept here in sch some weeks ago, he really exposed the mysteries i never knew about being an actuary. By saying u are a trained actuary, what do u mean? have u written any of the exams? i like to discuss and learn from u sir. Thanks

I studied insurance. I didn't school in unilag eventually so I might not know any gist about their actuarial science being reckoned wit or not. But I know actuarial science is a course that will never leave u jobless if u have at least a good result

yea dats right, career prospects aint too encouraging in Nigeria for now, but its crazily in high demand overseas where actuaries are needed in a large number

True, but even here in Nigeria they are in high demands by insurance companies. U just have to know where to look to get the jobs

It's an interesting field but you need to prove to the society how relevant you are as an actuarial scientist. Low awareness about this course in Nigeria. I did not do pure actuarial science, only specialize in it

For o'level : maths, English, economics, and other relevant subjects including account

Cut off mark depends on average aggregate scores of those who applied for the course

I don't have account o. the reason why I asked was that in the brochure, they stated we need English, maths, economics, government and any other subject for o level. I'm planning to make any of agriculture or biology the fifth subject cause those are the subjects I have left. but someone told me one must have further maths but on the contrary, you're saying I need accounting. plz, what do I do?

further maths is no longer needed for actuarial science in Unilag. It's important to note that they accept commercial or science student as a result crk and lit-in-eng are not relevant. And I believe (at least in my secondary school) that agriculture and biology are general subjects. That's was why I recommended account as a relevant subject.

you can but account is much more relevant here. You have the basic requirements already IE math, eng, economics, government..Not so sure about agric or biology.

Whose planning on writing the professional exams. I need a study partner at Lekki..
