A multi-billion naira film dedicated to the live of Nobel Laureate, Professor Wole Soyinka will soon be released to the public, Irohinoodua was told this afternoon. The film will appear in celluloid for the first five years before it will be produced as home video, the source hinted.
Irohinoodua gathered that millions of naira have been invested in the making of the film starring close to 1000 people in different roles. The film which has taken close to half a decade to produce is sponsored Back Page and Ake Films owned by Dapo Adeniyi, a pastor and well known cinematographer.
“It has taken over 10 years to put the film together and in a way it is also about the history of Nigeria. Soyinka became one of the lead actors in Nigerian affairs in 1958 and since he has dominated the scene without quitting for a second. The film is on Soyinka but at the same time, it chronicles the history of Nigeria. It will assist the younger generation to know where we are coming from,” the source who does not wish to be named told our correspondent adding that the making of the film remains one of Nigeria's most guided secrets.
The source hinted that the film was initially scheduled for premiere this month end at the Aso Rock Villa with President Mohammadu Buhari as the chief host, but the plan was shelved when the film promoters could not guarantee that the iconic subject, Prof Soyinka will be present at the event.
“President Buhari was excited when informed that he would watch the premiere of the film at Aso Rock at the end of October. But Soyinka is not certain his schedule will permit him to be at the event’, a reliable source told Irohinodua this morning. The source revealed that the film promises to “open the tinder box” of Nigerian troubled history.
