The party said the re-run of the governorship election in Ekiti state has exposed the massive rigging carried out by the PDP in the state during the April 2007 governorship poll.

In a statement issued in Lagos yesterday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the party said the wide discrepancies in the number of votes won by the PDP in the various local governments in 2007 and the votes won during the 25 April 2008 re-run has shown that the PDP cooked up figures during the 2007 elections.

AC said figures from Gboyin, Ise/Orun, Irepodun/Ifelodun, Ijero and Ikole, just to mention some of the local governments in the state, gave up the PDP as a party which depends on rigging to ‘win’ elections.

“In Ikole, the PDP had 17,210 votes in 2007, against 6,233 for the AC. In the re-run, however, the PDP’s total number of votes fell to 7,034 while that of AC was 6,183. Over 10,000 votes which the PDP claimed it got in 2007 have suddenly vanished

“Next is Ijero, where the PDP scored 13,241 votes in April 2007, compared to 6,882 for the AC. With the re-run, PDP’s figure crashed to 9,110, while the AC’s was 5,359.

“Next is Irepodun/Ifelodun, where the PDP won 17,598 votes in 2007, compared to 9,900 for the AC. Now, after the re-run, PDP could only get 5,665, against 9,926 for the AC.

“For Gboyin, PDP got 12,426 votes in 2007, against 6,224 for the AC. After the re-run, PDP’s tally stood at a lowly 5,975 and the AC’s 5,962. And for Ise/Orun, the PDP garnered 4,744 in 2007 against 2,974 for the AC. With the re-run, PDP fell to 3,864 while the AC got 5,962.

“All the votes that suddenly vanished into thin air could only mean one thing: That the PDP allocated those huge numbers to itself in Ekiti - just as it did across the country - in 2007, without realising that a re-run in which the people will be determined to defend their votes could one day expose its rigging pattern.”
