Those who have plied the Itu-Calabar road over the recent weeks will know of the terrible spot at Ukurikang where one can spend up to 3hrs at the least on some occasions. The spot is so bad that trailers, tankers, heavy duty equipment sometimes fall and cause unnecessary hardship to other travellers plying the route.

Today to our greatest surprise, we noticed some work happening on that spot. Even though we were quite relieved, we were equally disappointed that it was just a temporary filling of the area with stonebase. As we stopped to speak to the contractors carrying out this job, which we understood were Raycon Construction and Julius Berger, both with branches in Akwa Ibom and Cross River, we came to learn that it was not a contract awarded. This work being done is strictly at no cost to the government and all just a part of the community support policies of both companies. They have witnessed the sufferings of the masses that ply that road and decided to come together to carry out a temporary solution pending any next move by the FG and state governments of Akwa Ibom and Cross River.

After the cut are some pictures before and after repairs.

Nice one from the companies for giving back to the community. Their intervention should be noted by the fed govt and the state governors concerned.

Imoke no try at all... no need to mention former president Daftus Jonatus.

Good development but go back in three months time and you will not recognise that portion again.

I suppose you are referring to the government because this intervention is done by two companies as a means of supporting the masses.
