Mama, you told me I could become anything I wanted
So I made up my mind to be a doctor
Yesterday we had a math test at school
Today I was running home
To show you the fat 'A' on my script
I was almost home
When I felt the sharp pain in my thigh
It felt like hell
All around me people were screaming
Little children crying
I felt another pain in my chest
Looked at my script
My blood was all over it
Shining brighter than the fat red 'A' I had wanted to show you

I woke up in a strange room with strange people all around
Mama, Mama, where are you?
A man looks over and shakes his head
He whispers to pretty young woman next to him
So softly I can barely make out the words
'He's not gonna make it. The bullet pierced his lungs and scraped his heart. He doesn't have much longer.'
Mama, mama, where are you?
I'm scared, and I need you here
I need to show you one last time that I didn't let you down
Need to show you my fat red 'A'

It won't be long coming now
It hurts to move, and my breath is coming in short gasps
My body hurts more than ever
I hear the man say that my heart is failing
He says that my lungs are collapsing
Mama, mama, where are you?
I'm scared and I need you here
My script is still tightly clutched in my hand
And my fat red 'A' is barely distinguishable

Now, the line is flat and I've found peace
Soaring above the earth
Now I can never be a doctor
My life was stolen by terrorism
Their bullets pierced my lungs
And took the living breath out of me
I never got to show you my fat red 'A'
Mama, mama, do not cry,
And tell daddy to be brave
And when I'm buried
Please put daddy's boy on my grave.

Mama, mama, I never let you down
But the terrorists never gave me a chance at life.
