THE House of Representatives has rejected a bill which, if passed into law, would have allowed Nigerians living in the diaspora the right to participate in the country’s electoral process starting from 2011.

The development came as the Speaker, Honourable ‘Dimeji Bankole, announced, on Wednesday, that he had received seven different bills on the proposed electoral reform from President Umaru Yar’Adua.

The House, while rejecting the bill seeking to give right to vote by Nigerians living abroad, said what the bill was canvassing for was against the provision of the Nigerian constitution.

The Deputy Minority Leader, Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, who was one of those who opposed the bill, drew the attention of the House to Section 77(2) of the 1999 Constitution, saying by that provision, it was not possible for the bill to sail through.
