Apple’s iPhone sales over the last quarter delivered in a major way, with the company over the last three months selling 48 million units. The 48 million figure represents a 22% increase in sales year over year, an impressive feat to be sure. All the more impressive is that revenue generated from the iPhone is up 36% year over year.

But per usual, there’s a whole lot more to Apple’s iPhone story than meets the eye. During Apple’s earnings conference call yesterday, Apple CEO Tim Cook provided us with interesting information about iPhone sales this past quarter. Of particular interest is the fact that approximately 30% of all iPhone purchases last quarter came from Android switchers. According to Cook, this represents the highest rate of Android switching Apple has ever seen.

“It’s a huge number, Cook said, “and we’re very proud of it.”

“What this means is that for customers who purchased an iPhone last quarter and replaced a smartphone, 30% of those switched from an Android device,” Cook said. “There would’ve been some switchers from other operating systems, but Android is the largest one by far.”

“That number is the largest we’ve ever recorded since we began measuring it three years ago,” Cook added. “We’re very proud of that number.”

While Cook didn’t offer up any explanation to the increased rate of Android to iPhone switching, Apple in recent months has made a more concerted efforts to lure over Android users. Earlier in the year, for instance, Apple began an Android trade-in program which lets users offer up their Android devices for recycling in exchange for instant store credit towards the purchase of a new device. Apple this year also released a “Move to iOS” app for Android that makes the migration over to the world of all things iOS much more seamless of a process.

Another interesting factoid Cook mentioned is that 2/3 of all users who either had an iPhone 4s, iPhone 5, or iPhone 5s when the iPhone 6 launched still haven’t refreshed their device. As a result, Cook is confident that Apple will have no problem keeping iPhone sales strong and vibrant in the quarters ahead.
