The OP is not wrong... I personally am a full stack hybrid app developer, but still cannot deny the fact that they still have bad rep. Don't mistake that for poor performance...

The performance of phonegap apps are improving fast but their rep is not improving so op is right

Most developers still look down on Hybrid apps so the reputation is still bad
