Re: What The Niger Delta Want From The Nigeria State by Ginoo: 9:10am On Nov 01, 2015
TonyeBarcanista:
The South-South or "Niger Delta" is the region that is rich in mineral and human resources. It is the most misunderstood region that has experienced the worst form of marginalisation within the Nigeria State and suffered environmental pollution. It consists of over 40 ethnic groups which include; Bini, Efik, Urhobo, Ogoni, Ijaw etc within the six states that makes up the region (Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross river states).

Who Should Speak For The Niger-Delta
I want to state that no single ethnic group within or outside the region has the authority to speak on behalf of the entire region. However, people of the region have co-existed for centuries, some ethnic groups even trace their ancestry to common 'ancestor'. As a proud Nigerian from the Niger Delta extraction, I considered it wise to bring to the fore the demands of ethnic nationalities with respect to their respective declarations and bill of rights.

WHAT NIGER-DELTANS WANT:
1. Autonomy/Resource Control:

This is the Demand-in-Chief of all ethnic nationalities in the region within the Nigeria state. Ogoni nation in paragraph 20 of Ogoni Bill of Right(1991) demand for control of resources within Ogoni land. Similarly, paragraphs 3 of Urhobo Declaration(1998), 10 of Ijaw/Kaiama Declaration (1998), 4 of Ikwere Rescue Charter(1999), 5 of Oron Bill of Right (1999) and 53 of Itsekiri Memorandum(2012) all call for Regional Autonomy and control of resources that lies within their respective lands, while paying an agreed percentage to the Federal/Central Government.

2. Abolishment of Land Use Act(1978) and Other Laws:
All ethnic nationalities within the Niger-Delta were unanimous in their demand for the abolishment of Petroleum Act of 1969 and 1991, the National Waterways Decree of 1977, the Land Use Act of 1978 and 1993, and Supreme Court ruling of April 5, 2002. This demand is found in the declarations/bill of rights of each ethnic groups.

3. Cooperation Among Ethnic Nations:
Ethnic nations within the Niger-Delta are peaceful and law abiding people. Despite difference in tribes and tongues, the pledge for peaceful cohabitation with other groups within and outside the region is one that is held so dear. A look at the declaration/bill of rights by all ethnic groups will give a picture that all nationalities are in solidarity and pledges to work with each other. Ikwerre people expressed solidarity with "all oppressed peoples in Nigeria in their just struggle for justice and equity." Similarly, Urhobo call for "full cooperation not conflict among nationalities". Ijaws in their declaration offer a hand of friendship and comradeship to the Itsekiri, Ilaje, Urhobo, Isoko, Edo, Ibibio, Ogoni, Ekpeye, Ikwerre etc. They also affirm commitment to joint struggle with the other ethnic nationalities in the Niger delta area for self-determination and expressed "solidarity with all peoples, organisations and ethnic nationalities in Nigeria and elsewhere who are struggling for self-determination and justice"

4. Niger-Deltans Not In Conflict:
Make no mistake, ethnic nations within Niger-Delta are not in conflict. Ethnic nationalities within the Niger Delta have realised that the present structure in Nigeria and the multi-national companies are responsible for setting ethnic nations against each other. In Warri for instance, the Ijaws, Urhobos and Itsekiri have lived together since the 15th century without rancour or war. But in 1997, Abacha relocated the Hq of Warri South-West LG from Ogbe-Ijaw(in Ijaw area) to Ogidigben (Itsekiri area). This singular action precipitated riots and then ethnic war between the two groups. In a situation of fiscal federalism/autonomy, such wouldn't have even been. The People Are Wise! On September 29 2014, the Ijaw Youth Council and Ikwerre Youth Council vowed to work together because the two ethnic groups have "common destiny". They realised the scheme of oil firms to exploit their lands while setting them against each other. www.thetidenewsonline.com/2014/09/29/ijaw-ikwerre-youth-unite-against-oil-firms/

All through the Midwest/Bendel/Benin Empire, the ethnic nations never went to war against each other. Today, God in His divine Wisdom has brought these people of the SIX states together. The unity and bond is stronge than ever.

5. Niger-Delta Is Not Hating On Anybody:
In the declarations of the various ethnic nationalities within the Niger-Delta, no mention of hate against any group was made. The oppressor is the Nigeria system and multinational companies and NOT the tribe of office holders. Hence, the call for the convocation of Soveriegn National Conference. This position I believe is shared by other groups as testified in the respective declarations. Niger-Deltans may be dissatisfied with the present structure of Nigeria(like everyone else) but they DON'T hate Nigeria. They only want it restructured for the good of all.

6. Niger Delta "Is" A Majority Group:
By the grace of God, the unity of the Niger-Delta has made the people a collective majority group in Nigeria despite the minority status/population of the respective ethnic nations that make up the region. The people of Niger-Delta are equal in unity whether Efik, Ika, Itsekiri, Ibibio, Ekpeye, Ikwerre, Bini, Esan, Ogoni, Ijaw etc. Despite the unity, they recognise and respect respective ethnic distinctiveness. The resolve to see to the actualisation of the noble demands within the Nigeria State is unshakable. By the Grace of God, the demand for restructuring shall come to fruition for the benefit of all Niger-Deltans and the Nigeria State.

May God Bless Niger-Delta
May God Bless Nigeria

The SS have nothing to worry about. No single inch of Nigerian land outside the 5 SE states would be ceded to the secessionists if their dream is ever considered by the FG.

In fact the FG is more likely to spend more time investigating the claims of the Igala people of Aguleri who have border disputes with Anambra state. Their lands would likely be returned to them before the biafrans are allowed to go in peace.

To start with, there are no Ijaws in Akwa Ibom to start with, the Ibenos and Eastern Obolo people are not Ijaws.
http://thenationonlineng.net/ijaw-akwa-ibom-stakeholders-disagree-on-oil-rivers-state/
Secondly, Niger delta means Ijaw, nothing more http://newtelegraphonline.com/ijaw-aibom-youths-bicker-over-confab/and nothing less. Nigerdelta is another name for Ijaw republic. The first Niger delta republic was an Ijaw only one:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isaac_Adaka_Boro

The second one is likely to be the same: http://africanheraldexpress.com/blog8/2013/10/04/niger-delta-as-ijaw-colony-a-word-of-caution/
http://www.nigeriannewspapers.today/crack-in-niger-delta-over-alleged-favouritism-of-ijaws-by-jonathan/

The Ijaws hide behind the tag Niger delta to push their ethnic and tribal agenda.
Ijaws so far have been the direct beneficiaries of Niger delta struggle. Edwin Clark made it clear to Peter Odili, a Niger deltan, that he, Peter Odili as an Igboid man from Rivers state cannot benefit from the Niger delta oil when Odili was about to be picked as the VP to Yaradua, as long as Edwin Clark was concerned, only the Ijaws should benefit from Niger delta struggle, that was how GEJ emerged the VP and later the President.
So the Ijaw through the Ogbia man GEJ reaped the reward of the struggle of the entire Niger delta people.

The Amnesty program made for the Niger deltans were all cornered by Ijaws, with Ijaw leaders like Dokubo and Tonpolo getting the lion share, leaving the rest of the groups in Niger delta in the lurch.

Ijaws won't allow anything happen in Niger delta without Ijaws being direct beneficiaries of such, they would rather tear the project down than have other groups benefit from it, without Ijaws having a share in it.

Niger delta remains an Ijaw propaganda, and Ndiigbo will never allow any Igbo speaking group be dragged into it.
Already the Ekpeyes are complaining about the Ijaws agenda in Niger delta.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2014/11/ijaws-threaten-jonathan-calls-epz-commissioning/

Here was how Ijaws handled cornered and dominated the old Rivers state with the Ijaw tribal agenda, before the Ebitu Ukiwe and Zik delivered the Igboids from their( Ijaws) snare.

http://www.vanguardngr.com/2012/04/rebisi-in-history/

Now Ijaw is building a bigger empire where they will dominate smaller groups.

Too late bro.
Ijaws excluding the Igbo in Nigerdelta so they could lord it over others as always.

What's your say on Edwin Clark's statement that Peter Odili was not qualified to be Vice President under Yar'adua because he is Igbo?
That's a typical Ijaw for you, it must be Ijaw or no one else.

What about NDDC cornered by the Ijaws for the Ijaws only?

Why only the Ijaws were rewarded in the amnesty program?

80% of GEJ's, an Ijaw man, appointments for the SouthSouth went to the Ijaws.

Your NigerDelta is an Ijaw means of subjugating all others.

And please remove Ika, Ekpeye and Ikwerre from that your list to make Igbo exclusion complete.

Ibos are afraid of regionalism, resource control and fiscal federalism just like Northerners.
Igbos want either outright secession or the status quo.
The reason is simple, they can't survive without the resources of the minority in the SS

[b] avouritism Of Ijaws By Jonathan
NigerianNation 08/05/2015 General News

A socio-political group in the South-South, Ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC), has dismissed claims in some quarters that the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan empowered the people of the region.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan

The group made this known in a statement jointly signed by its president-general and acting secretary, Emenike Uriah Musa and Anthony Onyemachi. The group dismissed the purported assertion made by Senator Shehu Sani, that the people of the Niger Delta were the major beneficiaries of Jonathan’s administration.

According to Daily Trust the group said that the Ijaws were the main beneficiaries of the appointments and programmes carried out throughout the period Jonathan served as president.

The group said: “The attention of the Ekpeye Youth Congress (EYC) World-Wide has been drawn to the vituperations of one Mallam Shehu Sani, Senator Representing Kaduna North Senatorial District in the print media, to the effect that the people of Niger Delta are the only ones who benefited in political appointments and infrastructural development in the former President Goodluck Jonathan Administration, and that the North and South West did not benefit.”

The group added that apart from the Ijaws, other major ethnic groups like the Urhobos, Ibibios, Anangs, Ogonis, Efiks, Ikwerres, Etches, Ekpeyes, Ndokwas,Ogojas, Ogbas as well as Binis, while others were left out.

“The beneficiaries of the Presidential Amnesty Programme were 90% of Ijaw extraction,” the group said.

What u personally want is Resource control...All cowards in d SS wants that.

What every free born SS citizen of Nigeria wants is independence. Whenever a referendum comes, be it for the SS to leave nigeria with igbos or for the SS alone to leave nigeria n form their own country.......The SS will vote for a resounding 99.35% YES!!!

CHILL...

And please don't use Niger delta to represent the SS, it's abnormal n wrong. Use d right word, Or have u also started dragging the word Niger delta like u are dragging rivers state from being an igbo state
