Biafra Movement Or Biafra "Madness"? by chuks87(m): 11:18pm On Nov 02, 2015
Came across this on Facebook and decided to share...

I think it is high time I propounded my opinion about
this Biafra dementia that has been unfurling all
across the nation by some inebriated and
ignoramus group of Igbo people. I will express my
views no matter whose ox is gored.
I would have been a Biafran if the war had
succeeded. My father was in the army during the
war and I have read and heard, and seen evidences of the atrocities committed against the Southerners just before the Civil War in what is now called "Igbo Pogroms". My father told me everything that happened.
But what I still do not understand is why Igbos still
went back to the same North after the War. Some of them still live there even after all the atrocities that are regularly committed against them! Why can they not live in the East and develop it? I just do no get it.
Two possible answers -
(1) 'hubris' or the belief that
you are so special and above all others that you will soon pull the wool over their eyes and have one onthem (obviously not working on the Hausa north) (2) as I said earlier, a masochistic streak that wants to be hit again and again by the same person.
So somewhere in your pithy little brains you think
the answer to all of your home-made problems is
the creation of Biafra and the installation of 1 man
so long as he originates from what you call Igbo
nation. You know I would have even given your
postulation a 5 second thought if not that I
remember that all Igbo states are led by an Igbo
governor and all their cabinet would also typically
be all Igbo; yet not one Igbo state now or in the past
has been any more distinguished than any other
state in Nigeria.
Let me tell you a little more you need to know about
OJUKWU, BIAFRA and the WAR. It may interest you
to know the history, origin and events that sprung
up that declaration "Republic of Biafra. This was not because of the love Ojukwu had for the igbo people, rather than his love for power and embitterment that power eluded him. Ojukwu wasted so many promising and prominent young Nigerians. Thes Youths were brainwashed by Ojukwu just what Nnamdi is doing. Immediate causes of the war included a military coup, a counter-coup, and persecution of Igbo living in Northern Nigeria.

Control over oil production in the Niger Delta played
a vital strategic role.
It may also interest you to know that the first
Nigerian coup d’etat that resulted in the
assassination of 11 senior Nigerian politicians and
two soldiers as well as kidnapping three others was
led by Kaduna Nzeogwu (an igbo) and General
Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi (another igbo)then used the
coup as a pretext to annex power, ending Nigeria's
nascent democracy. Then along came a counter
coup led by Lt. Col. Murtala Mohammed which
resulted to murder of Gen Aguiyi Ironsi as a reaction
to the killings of Northern politicians and Officers by
mostly Igbo soldiers.
Ojukwu felt Brigadier Babafemi Ogundipe was the
highest in the hierarchy of power and should be
made head of state. But when the coup plotters
insisted and made Gowon the head of state, Ojukwu
got pissed and this led to the civil war. Brigadier
Ogundipe opted out peacefully, but pride did not
allow Ojukwu to let go. Apart from the Aburi Accord
in Ghana, there were a lot of other accords to settle
issues amicably, but Ojukwu was bent on ruling his
own oil rich country “Baifra”.
There was nothing like the "REPUBLIC OF BIAFRA "
it's an illusion. That assertion was made on 30th
may 1967, and was just for a selfish purpose
(leadership ) Why did you think Ojukwu fought?,
Who was he fighting for. Now another self-centered
Nnamdi Kanu wants to take advantage of your
sentiments . Ojukwu fought because he could not
allow Gowon who was in the same rank as he was
be head of state. Taking advantage of his father's
wealth, he arrogated himself to a god of war without
minding how many lives he would destroy.
Did you think Biafrans rebels combated openly with
the Nigerian army? Apart from some cheap
ambushes like the Abagana, where could they have
confronted the Nigerian armies. Biafrans dealt with
Biafrans. The rebels captured Igbo cities and
tormented innocent lives. Raping young women and
forcefully taking wives from their husbands.
Recruiting boys between the ages of 13-15 and
above into their army. Killed any person suspected
of sabotage. The saboteurs were worn the Nigerian
army uniform, killed and termed Nigerian soldiers.
Igbos suffered, but Nigerian armies rescued the
captured cities one after the other, until all was
rescued.
Benin City was captured by the Biafran soldiers
alongside Auchi, Agenebode, Okene, Asaba, Agbor ,
Iloshi and Atani while indiscriminately shooting and
killing armless civilians in the process.
Unbeknownst to General Banjo (the leader of this
mobilization who was a Yoruba) a unit of Biafran
soldiers under Lt. Col. Oechi attacked the
government residence of Mid-Western Region
governor David Ejoor at the behest of President
Odumegwu Ojukwu to capture Ejoor dead or alive.
Not wanting to appoint an Igbo over non-Igbo
citizens General Banjo suggested that either David
Ejoor, Sam Ogbemudia, or Col. Trimnell be made
governor but Ojukwu refused and ultimately placed
the Igbo medical-officer Albert Okonkwo governor.
Ojukwu would finally execute Vitor Banju, Emmanuel
Ifeanjuna (The first black African to ever win an
international gold medal) and one Alale following a
plot to agree a ceasefire with Nigeria. Let me try to
make it short. I think some of these so called pro-
Biafrans should know that the only solution is to try
to accept a modus vivendi and let’s live in peace
and unity, and stop living in cloud cuckoo land with
the stupendous misbegotten idea of Biafra. Nnamdi
Kanu is an illiterate who sat in some classrooms,
but it did not have any positive impact on him, and
he has succeeded in brainwashing some gullible
and incredulous igbo group to joining his selfish
cause.
Now he has been lionized, praised, reverend and
worshiped. That is exactly what he wants. Can
anyone remember the names the igbos who have
died for this Nnamdi madness? No! Only Nnamdi
Kanu is the cynosure.
The truth is that Biafra was an Ojukwu Scam.

why can't we just have a simple referendum and let these Igbos go?

in all honesty, I am tired of this #shit; besides they shouldn't think they'll remain in others parts of the country after the creation of Biafra.

as u create ur Biafra, just pack all ur loads and go to ur erosion ravaged land #shikena.

This is funny and show you lack of knowledge in Biafran history.
Ojukwu never declared Biafra, the Biafran people did, Ojukwu was used as our mouth piece.

Just like our current greedy politicians, Ojukwu as a son of a rich Biafran with investments scattered all over Nigeria had more to lose in the war.

If he was greedy, he would do what our current greedy politicians are doing, which is cut their ears from the Yearnings of the Biafrans for freedom and focus more on enriching himself and pockets by working with the Northern Oligarchy to get his own share of the Eastern region oil blocks.
The trailer loads of Ndiigbo massacred all over Nigeria would mean nothing to him.

. Why should Ndiigbo want to control
the centre, when crude oil was just
discovered in the Midwest and Eastern
region, which were both under Okpara and
Osadebey leadership?
Since we are greedy, the most greedy
position would have been weakening the
centre and tightening our grip on the two
region to make sure we keep the bulk of
the petrol dollars in the East and Midwest,
and not allow the Odua-Arewa have any
sniff of it.
But what Nzeogwu and co did eroded our hold over the two regions, and what Ironsi was trying to do, was
exactly opposite of this, his unitary plan if
it succeeded would have allowed the
Odua-Arewa have more access to the
Midwest and Eastern region petrol dollars.
Something was amiss with that Coup. It
was totally Anti Igbo.
What Okpara and Osadebey wanted then
was less attachment to the centre, ie to
keep the petrol dollars within the SE/SS.
The coup plotters were doing the exact
opposite.

There was a Republic of Biafra, a nation created by its citizens in an assembly known as Eastern region consultative assembly that comprised of reps from all ethnicities within the defunct region, a nation that was named by one of her citizens by the name Frank Opigo, a non Igbo Biafra, a nation that evoked the spirit if patriotism amongst her citizens, a country so loved by her people that many enrolled into her Army to defend her from invaders( my father and Uncles enrolled at Agbogwugwu willingly, the Biafran dream was so strong that even the highly cerebral Christopher Okigbo joined her Army willingly, a world boxing champion, Dick Tiger returned to Biafra to fight for Biafra).

Any body that fed you that silly story of Ojukwu deceiving or forcing Biafrans into Biafran Army is high on urea.

Ojukwu fought for the survival of Biafrans in the face of massacre, from Northern elements.

Biafra Army so messed up the Nigerian Army that Nigerians had to resort to unconventional means like bombing of Biafran markets and homes killing women and children, starving the Biafran civilians, giving away a part of Biafra, Bakassi to Cameroun, all in a bid to demoralize the gallant Biafra Army, who killed 3 Nigerian soldiers for any Biafran soldier killed by Nigerians.

I wish I had more time to educate you on the Biafran war and on Biafran history, cos I can see that your father did a shabby job at educating you about your people, and the result is that you have absorbed anti Biafran propaganda packaged as facts that are being dished out by our detractors, and you are now regurgitating them. I don't have time to reply the rest of your post.

You are not wiser than the most Influencial Igbo man ever lived, Chinua Achebe who fought for Biafra with his pen and died a Biafra at heart, and even before his death, gave us a Biafran history to reawaken the dead amongst us.

I would recommend you read the following books if you are really Igbo:

1. There was a country. By Chinua Achebe

2. In Biafra Africa died ( the diplomatic pilot) . By Emefiena Ezeani.

They should reconfigure and put you on the right track.

Who ever wrote this made so many mistakes it's just incredible. I have often said it here on Nairalabd that over 80% of Nigerians born after the war don't know the history of Nigeria. All they know is 'one Nigeria' without knowing the meaning of 'oneness'.

The guy said that it was Igbo officers that killed mainly western and Northern leaders in the first coup. This true, but coups are usually sectional things. We have had 'middle belt coup' with Dimka, we had a 'SS coup' with Orkah and so on. People die in coups and it is regrattable.

He said that Ironsi conducted a coup, how can Ironsi conduct a coup when he was the one that put down the coup? Why would Ironsi be fighting the same coup he is conducting? This is madness

He said that Biafra was all about Ojukwus ambition. So Biafra had nothing to do with the over 50,000 easterners men, women and children that were massacred all over Nigeria mainly in the north? So Biafra had nothing to do with the sectarian violence that had engulfed Nigeria and the political unrest of the time? Everything was just about Ojukwus ambition?

He said that Ojukwu declared Biafra because he didn't want Gowon to be head of state but what the ignoramus failed to mention was that Ojukwu went to Aburi, Ghana and signed an agreement with Gowon and in that agreement, Ojukwu promised to recognise Gowon as long as Gowon kept to the Aburi agreement. It was Gowon that broke the agreement which forced Ojukwu to declare Biafra.

Another thing the ignoramus does not know is that Ojukwu received the mandate from all the Chiefs of the 20 provinces in the eastern region to go ahead and declare Biafra.

He said that Ojukwu wasted lives. My father was a captain in the Biafran Army. My father will tell anyone who cares to listen that he and his men did not fight and die for Ojukwu. They fought for their freedom from the opressive Nigerian state. That a person does not want to be a Nigerian is not by force.

A lot of people talk nonsense without the education of history.

Biafra is not about Ojukwu or Nnamdi Kanu or any particular man. Biafra is all about the right of a particular people to free themselves from the colonial instrument of oppression called Nigeria.

Non of us were ever asked if we want to be Nigerians, we were all forced into it at gun point by Lord Lugard. Why is it that in this 21st century, we must still answer this strange name imposed on us by the White man? We cannot think for ourselves? The fabrication of Lugard called Nigeria is the best we can do? That is unacceptable to me as an Igbo man!

I want my freedom as an Igbo man and I must have it because it is my God given right to decide if I am Nigerian or not

God bless all the lovers of freedom and self determination

And may Godbless Biafra!
