60,000 construction workers lose jobs in 4 months

By Oboh Agbonkhese
LAGOS—Over 60,000 workers in the construction sector have lost their jobs in the past four months, signifying a massive break in infrastructure development, which has been described as unfair on the workers who voted in a Federal Government that promised to protect their interests.

This was the position of the National Union of Civil Engineering Construction, Furniture and Wood Workers, NUCECFWW, at a briefing in Lagos yesterday.

According to Mr. Amechi Asugwuni, President-General of the union, development was on hold in the country and if government wants to remain true to its promise of creating jobs, it will make infrastructure development part of its war against corruption and a first step is to reactivate all roads and rail construction projects, which multiplier effects will boost the economy.

He said: “We urge the Federal Government to, among other moves, set up a monitoring committee that will ensure implementation of projects according to specifications and stop prospective employees from forcing workers to sign anti-unionization agreements.”

The Fate of 60,000 Construction Workers that lose jobs in 4 months.

#BeTheJudge.

You worked in the construction company in the past five years that GEJ was president, you had no issues with your job. Instead, you received promotions and increased salary packages. You were happy.

However, in those five years, you committed a lot of energy calling President GEJ "clueless". You and your friends resolved to vote him out on the election day. When the D-Day finally came, you all voted out GEJ, not minding who was going to replace him since, according to you, a "#NEPAbillCertificate" would be far more efficient than GEJ. In fact you even preferred a goat to GEJ.

Finally, you got your wish and GEJ is out and a "body language Administration" is now in place. Four months later, your construction company fires you due to the Stone Age economic policies of the body language regime.

Now that you're jobless, you are looking for GEJ to blame but he is gone.

Moral Lesson: most misfortunes are self inflicted.

Rather than prepare himself
for the task of
governing Nigeria, Buhari was actually preparing
for violence. He did not believe he was going to be
sworn in as president even if he won, but...
Jonathan actually disappointed him when he refused to
contest the result of the 2015 election. It is that
spirit of war that's controlling him now. He never
prepared himself for the kind of leadership
Nigeria
needs today. Buhari is a yesterday person".

What do you expect, when there is no work or money to continue on-going projects? Or do you want the companies to keep paying the workers for doing nothing?
