Nigeria: Two Uac Directors Join Buhari's Cabinet

Two Directors of UAC of Nigeria Plc (UAC), Senator Udoma Udo Udoma and Dr. Okechukwu Enyinna Enelamah have been formally confirmed by the Senate as ministers in President Muhammadu Buhari's cabinet.

Udoma, an accomplished lawyer and two-time Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, joined the Board of UAC of Nigeria Plc in 1995 and was appointed as the non-Executive Chairman of the Board with effect January 2,2010. He is also the non-Executive Chairman of Union Bank Plc and serves on the board of Unilever Nigeria Plc.

Founding Partner of Udo Udoma & Belo-Osagie, a foremost legal firm in the country, Udoma has served the nation in very many capacities. He was the pioneer Chairman of the Corporate Affairs Commission; served for four years as the non-executive chairman of the board of the Securities & Exchange Commission (SEC) and was also Chairman of the Task Force on the Petroleum Industry Bill.

On the other hand, Enelamah, who joined the UAC Board in 2010, first graduated as a medical doctor before qualifying as a chartered accountant. He has an MBA from the prestigious Harvard Business School, Massachussetts, USA and is also a chartered financial analyst.

He is the Chief Executive Officer of African Capital Alliance Limited (ACA), a leading private equity firm. He also worked for leading outfits including Arthur Andersen and Goldman Sachs and currently serves on the Board of several Companies and not-for-profit organisations.

UAC said in a statement that it received the news of the development as a further mark of recognition of the depth of quality of its human capital and its ability to contribute to critical national moments in the country's history.

In the past, UAC's contributions to the public sphere has been well heralded, especially with the appointment of Chief Ernest Adegunle Shonekan as the Head of the National Interim Government and Commander-in-Chief of the nation's Armed Forces as well as the appointment of late Mr Isaac Aluko-Olokun as Minister of National Planning. Both were serving UAC senior managers when they were called up for national service.

Speaking on the development, Group Managing Director/CEO of UAC, Mr. Larry Ettah, said: "At UAC, the exit of the directors will no doubt be missed. Nigeria's gain will not be UAC's loss but its donation as a responsible corporate citizen of men of consummate talent and good stewards of capital to the stand out performance that is required to build a new Nigeria and a more enabling commonwealth for all citizens - both individual and corporate. Their appointment is a further validation that UAC, as reflected in its history, remains an incubator of national leadership, integrity, character and service."
