Purpose of Role/Context

ROLE:
Reporting to Guinness Nigeria’s Marketing Director, with a dotted line to Diageo Africa's Consumer Planning Director, the West African CPR Manager will take responsibility for:

· Combining analysis, diagnosis, insightful thinking, judgement and clear recommendations to drive growth for existing brands and key initiatives.
· Championing the generation and implementation of consumer insights throughout West Africa.
· Managing Quantitative and Qualitative West African studies.
· CPR capability-building within West Africa, across markets and with our research and advertising agencies. Includes the hiring and training of CPR people in W. Africa, when necessary.
· Ensuring Advertising is consumer focused, clear, and consistent with brand heritage and objectives. 
· Managing Research projects across West Africa, and for DA.

CONTEXT:
The objective of CPR in West Africa (DA and local) is to build an integrated team of planners who play leading roles in keeping marketing activities consumer focused, championing insights and making recommendations that drive growth.   The CPR manager in Nigeria plays a leading role building CPR capability across West Africa and ensures that all consumer information and resulting actions gathered across West Africa (local and DA) are disseminated effectively.  The CPR manager of West Africa will also play a leading functional role across Africa in developing advertising, implementing Link testing, and building organizational capability in delivering great advertising

Need To Know

· Clear understanding / delivery of the standards demanded by Diageo regarding CPR skills, behaviours and best practice.
· Knowledgeable and experienced in communications skills, able to coach, facilitate and lead.
· Skilled in the management of multiple research agencies.
· Good analytical skills, able to integrate learning from multiple sources and generate insights.
· Experienced in designing research studies (qualitative & quantitative).
· In-depth understanding of quantitative research techniques (including retail audits, product tests, STM’s). Able to direct agencies in design, analysis and reporting.
· Extensive experience of implementing tracking studies. Able to direct agency in design, analysis and reporting.
· Keep abreast of consumer issues and trends across the major African markets.
· Be a champion of Diageo’s Responsible Research policy, ensuring that all research conforms to the policy.
· Be a champion of DWBB tools, processes and behaviours. Able to train, coach and embed enhanced DWBB capability.
· Be a champion of the DMC and ensure its implications are highlighted during all creative development work.

Able to manage the West African CP&R Budgets, ensuring that PO numbers are promptly generated, invoices are processed promptly and that we remain within budget.

Need To Do

· Ensure that the consumer is at the heart of everything we do. Actively is a consumer champion in meetings
· Drawing on consumer knowledge and insights, help focus activity briefs such that they inspire powerful brand communications.
· Ensure that all resultant work fits the brand strategy and is true to the KBB and insight.
· Ensure GAME plans are consumer driven to maximise volume, ensuring increased usage and enhanced understanding of available consumer data.
· Support the implementation of M&E (Measurement and Evaluation) across all activities, recycling learning’s.
· Support markets’ management of continuous (Beer Tracker, Malt Tracker) and ad hoc tracking (innovation trackers).
· Key project management: Leading (or supporting, as appropriate) key CPR projects: scoping, briefing and managing the process. Then transforming research outputs into simple, actionable implications.
· Dissemination of consumer data / research findings across West African markets, as necessary, ensuring that a concise, considered summary accompanies each report.  Ensure that all key insights and recommendations are communicated to DA.
· Preparation of data and presentations.
· Assisting in-market CP&R teams with strategic research briefs and the interpretation of research results.
· Lead regular brand reviews across the region, keeping the central and local brand teams informed and updated.
· Ensures that all work is done using the tools and processes of the Diageo Way of Brand Building (DWBB).
· Helps ensure that all brand projects are Diageo Marketing Code (DMC) compliant.
· Leads the development of appropriate research inputs  / stimulus that will aid deeper consumer understanding.

· Plays a key role in creative / communications development for priority brands in the region.
