License has been approved for the Akwa Ibom State Government to expand electricity generation at Ibom Power Plant located at Ikot Abasi local government area.

The state governor Udom Emmanuel announced this when he played host to the members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly led by the speaker, Aniekan Uko at the EXCO chambers, government house, Uyo.

He said the license to be acquired was fulfilling his campaign promise of increasing power supply in every part of the state and preparing the state for rapid industrialization and investment, adding that with the increment of megawatts from 191 earlier approved to 685, the state would witness 24 hours power supply.

The governor thanked the 6th assembly for the support shown his administration and promised to protect the mandate given him by Akwa Ibom people as the governor to consolidate on the development already witness in the state.

Doesn't seem like a hard concept to understand... it means generate more megawatts... if you want more details, like the engineering process involved in expanding the production capacity of an electric power plant, then sounds like you need an engineer.

After all, this is just the approval stage!

Stop talking what is not true. Ikot abasi doesn't have 24hr power supply like it was before. Ever since Alscon disconnected it power supply from ikot abasi main town.

I'm sure you are not from ikot abasi and not even residing there, you would have known that you are saying isn't true

You don't need to lecture me on how power is generated. I'm an engineer and I know more about it than you. What I was actually asking this

Ibom power plant is generating this amount of electricity, it has been evacuated from the point of generation to where it is to be used. But it isn't sufficient.

I expected him to say how much power akwa ibom is using. By the way, all this talk of expanding the generating capacity of a power plant is useless without expanding the capacity of the transmission lines.

Generating power without evacuating with at least 80% efficiency is a waste of time and money. By the way, wasn't the power plant privatised some months ago?

well, good for you! an engineer... never would've guessed!

well, it is obviously not sufficient, this power has to through the national gird as well not just Akwa Ibom, we need more watts from Nigeria, as fast as possible if the industrialization claim is real... Along as the project is done well... the currently operation one was completed by Akpabio, I think we need to look forward, and monitor the project hold government accountable if the project is not done at the appropriate times.

you are thinking only Akwa Ibom, Nigeria has never been in capacity. we the power goes into the grid, Akwa Ibom doesn't get back everything it put into the grid. An alot of villages without eletricity were linked in akwa ibom in the last Administration and new substations were built as well.

Any electricity increase in Nigeria is a good thing, the FG are not currently doing anything meaningfull about it!

The Ibom power plant project was conceived by the administration of Victor attah more than 8 years ago. It was a 2 phase project where the 191MW was the first phase and then 685MW the second phase.

Are they now saying that it is now that the government realise that the second phase of the project should have been completed for their so call "industrialization" the to take place? What has the past administration been doing for the past 8 years?

I'm saying that because you use the words looking forward.
