The maritime territory in question is suspected to hold a very large deposits of hydrocarbons, gas and other mineral deposits. If the presidents succeeds in getting the necessary approval for the expansion, any resources found there must be used for the benefits of the entire federation. No state should be allowed to claim any derivation over the territory.

And what of the people who depends on those waters for livelihood even before the creation of Nigeria.?
I hope you know those waters belong to communities and clans.
Anyway, it is none of my business as an Igbo man. Let them argue their own case.

When in doubt as questions rather than ending up looking foolish.

No clan or community owns 300 nautical miles to the sea. Deep sea.

We are talking about extending the maritime boundaries from 200 to 350 nautical miles on the continental shelf here sir, no community or clan can depend on such for their livelihood. Also note that the area we are trying to claim does not belong to any nation presently. It is simply international waters.

Kudos to the president on this, Nigeria will definitely benefit from the natural resources in that area in the future.

When good news like this are reported, wailers will pretend it never happened. They only rush after negative news.

They don't rush, they actively seek for it...

They would have been able to get people swayed if their criticisms were made objectively / in good faith but even Ray Charles can "see" that they throw tantrum & lash out like little brats whose favourite toy has been taken away & given to another child right in their presence & to add insult to injury.... It is a much despised child..

They need enough money to fulfil the campaign promises and expanding the maritime boundaries may help bring in extra revenue for the country.
