Could personal ambition and collective motivation push the Seasiders to end years of underachievement away at Enyimba?

there is everything to play for this weekend when Gbolahan Salami and Warri Wolves travel to Enyimba for a delicate Week 37 encounter. On a personal level, the striker will be desperate to advance his claim for the top scorer award, while the Wolves will be keen to close the gap on their hosts, who hold a six-point lead at the top of the Nigerian top flight.

‘It’s not over till it’s over’ ought to be the mantra at the Aba International Stadium, because, while things are against them, Wolves have the quality to end the campaign on a high note. It’s worth noting that despite the ominous six-point difference between the two sides, Wolves hold a goal-difference advantage of eight goals, which could prove decisive should the two teams end the season level on points.

The fixture against Enyimba gives Wolves the chance to make a big statement and keep their title hopes alive, having come so close in the last four campaigns.

Wolves, however, will be aware that they haven’t won at the Aba giants in their last six fixtures, managing only two draws, the last of which—in March 2013—finished goalless.

As the best-placed of Enyimba’s challengers, could they end that winless streak this weekend?

There are reasons for optimism.

Could personal ambition spur Wolves to an unexpected victory?

Aside the team's depth of quality, Salami's quest to add to his season’s goal tally and claim the Rasheed Yekini top scorer award could give the visitors an added edge. Despite playing in front of their home fans, will Kadiri Ikhana’s men be troubled by the Wolves’ firepower?

The Aba Millionaires may have recorded more victories on the road this season with five away wins to Wolves' one, but the visitors have snatched eight draws away from home, one more than Enyimba's seven.

Wolves may take encouragement from Enyimba’s home record which, while impressive, is not quite as imperious as their own. While Aigbogun’s side have 17 home wins and a single defeat, their opponents have 14 victories and four draws.

Enyimba’s away form is better than the Wolves’, however, who have only managed 11 points on the road, compared to the Aba giants’ 22.

Could the desire to keep the title race alive and Salami’s own individual quest to claim Yekini’s record ensure that the Seasiders end years of underachievement in Aba to secure a victory?

robosky02 if you're not being paid for this, then you're one hell of a patriotic Nigerian.
My Kwara Utd has been so useless this season.
I wish an investor will just buy that club and put the right things in place. Utd is not a club that should be shuttling between the premier division and the national league at all.
Government can never sell off clubs to private investors though...
Kwara United started well ,i mean really well.I commend their exemplary fans for their calmness even in the face if defeat .
They lost points at home when they needed them the most yet there was not single record of crowd violence.

thanks for these scenerio understood it more.

enyimba all the way
robosky02:

The Enyimba Sports Stadium, Aba will be the centre of attraction on Sunday as the two main contenders for the 2014/2015 Glo Premier League title, Enyimba and Warri Wolves clash in a week 37 fixture.

Enyimba who are looking to win a record seventh title, sit at the top of the log with 68 points, six more than the Seasiders who have amassed 62 points.

Wikki Tourists and Giwa FC who occupy third and fourth position respectively are out of the race as they are eight points behind the Aba based outfit and can't catch up with them with only two games remaining in the campaign.

Enyimba maintained their hold on top position courtesy of a hard-earned 1-0 win against local rivals, Abia Warriors in Umuahia last Sunday, their first against Ladan Bosso's men in four attempts in the top flight.

Warri Wolves on the hand handed a 4-0 defeat to Bayelsa United to set up an intriguing contest in Aba.

THE LIKELY SCENARIO'S

1. Enyimba will be crowned champions for the seventh time, the highest number by any club in the history of the Glo Premier League should they beat Warri Wolves by any goal margin in Aba on Sunday. That will see them increase their point haul to 71, which will see their rivals scramble for the last CAF Champions League ticket.

2. A draw will still be enough for Kadiri Ikhana's men to dethrone Kano Pillars as the number one club in the land.

A point in the game will see them keep their six points lead over Warri Wolves which could still benefit the Seasiders in their pursuit of a CAF Champions League ticket.

3. A win for Warri Wolves will certainly give them a chance of securing a historic first league title as it will reduce Enyimba's lead to three points.

The implication of this is that a winner will not emerge until the final day of the season.

Enyimba will travel to Lagos to face Sunshine Stars where a draw will still be enough to win the title.

The People's Elephants will however concede top position to Warri Wolves should they lose to Sunshine Stars and the Seasiders who have a superior goal difference, provided the Warri side maintain that advantage and also beat Taraba United in their final game of the campaign.
