The newly appointed Minister of Internal Affairs, Abdulrahman Dambazau, may reject the portfolio assigned to him by President Muhammadu Buhari, even as he has refused to resume to the Federal Ministry of Interior given to him.

Dambazau had been speculated to be the minister of defence but his expectation were not met

24 hours after his inauguration, the minister has refused to visit the ministry.

Our reporter observed the staff of the ministry lamenting publicly on Thursday about the minister refusal to resume.

The Minister was sworn in alongside other 35 ministers by
the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday and was directed to hit the ground running immediately.

However, as at the time of filing this report on Thursday evening, the minister is yet to resume at his duty post.

He was expected to arrive at the Ministry on Wednesday evening to meet with senior staff of the Ministry and the press immediately after his inauguration but after keeping them waiting for hours, he didn’t show up.

Again, he was expected to hold same meeting on Thursday
morning but he postponed it to 1:00pm at the eleventh hour.

With all the service chiefs of the parastatals under the Ministry already seated, a message was sent in around 2:00 pm that the meeting has again been postponed to 4:00 pm.

The Director of Press of the Ministry, Isiaka Yusuf told
Newsmen that the Minister had to postpone his resumption
in order to honour the invitation of the President to attend
the swearing in of the new permanent secretaries at the
state house.

His appointment is base on his corps and expertise (Military police n MSC criminology)

The newly appointed Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau has finally resumed duty on Thursday night almost 24 hours after his inauguration.

There were concerns earlier that the minister who were said to have prefer the Defence Ministry had refused to visit his new ministry.

The Minister who was sworn in alongside other 35 ministers by the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday and was directed to hit the ground running immediately, kept Service Chiefs for more than seven hours before showing up.

In his speech while speaking on assumption of office,Dambazau stated emphatically that: “My leadership will have zero tolerance for corruption, indolence, sectarianism,cronyism, and most of all, impunity.”

While challenging all the Service Chiefs to guide people’s trust jealously, the minister vowed that “leadership at all levels will be held accountable” for their actions.

He pledged to improve on all levels of welfare, logistics and general workplace safety of the staff of the ministry.

Earlier, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Bassey Ekpeyong said the task ahead was enormous, calling for the cooperation of all Service Chiefs in achieving the objectives of the present administration.

If he likes.

After all it is better not to pretend, but be real than to be compelled to
'hit-the-ground-running', but ends up hitting-the-ground-grounded,
as is the order in this government.

However, on a serious note, I consider this news item as much hullabaloo about nothing.
The man might have been engaged by Mr. President or might have just had some more serious and pressing matters to attend to.

Again, running to the ministry to hold meetings and meet the Civil Servants there may not necessarily translate to being work-ready, efficient and effective.

Afterall it took President Buhari two months to name the Secretary to the Federal Government, several other months to name several other key functionaries and 6 months to name members of his Federal Executive Council. APC sympathisers stopped at nothing in attributing this to performance, doing-the-right-thing, efficiency and effectiveness.

So the Minister may as well take the remaining days of this month to study the new ministry, learn the ropes, etc, before resuming.

He would only be taking a cue from someone somewhere.
