THE NASA MOON HOAX:

THE LIE WE BELIEVED

PRESENTING: 5 reasons to believe the American Government fooled you.

Having a few cool science facts up one's head was really exhilarating back in the day.
But, when there's a paucity of some real make-me-feel-good facts to throw about, we invented one ourselves.
The year was 2004.
We would take on a handful of students in school, and best them in the first round.
One of our questions really threw our opponents.

SO, WHAT WAS THE QUESTION?

"who was the first man to set foot on the moon"?

1950's saw an era of numerous space missions by USSR and the USA.
USSR succeeded in accomplishing the impossible task of landing on the moon with the 'Luna 2', which in turn boosted USSR's pride and economy in the world. This historical event threatened USA's integrity and dominance into the world market. Following this event, USA tried numerous attempts to achieve the task, but all in vain until 1969. USA succeeded in "reaching the moon", but a large fraction of critics in the present world believe otherwise.

Below are some of the famous so-called 'proofs' behind the 'Moon Landing Conspiracy'.

1. When the moon landing was shown live on television, witnesses clearly recall the waving U.S. flag planted by Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. The fold in the flag due to some unidentified breeze can be identified in the photos too. Here comes the controversial part. The atmosphere of moon doesn't contain air as earth does. It's completely vaccum surrounding the moon. The chances of a fluttering flag thereby vanishes.

NASA claims that the fluttering was observed due to a reaction force due to the astronauts touching the metal pole to which the flag was attached. In yet another explanation, NASA says that the flag was kept in a thin tube and the rippled effect was due to its unfurling just before it was planted.

[see picture below]

Clearly, the NASA explanations have failed to satisfy the conspiracy theories.

2. One of the most compelling and genuine arguments to claim that the moon landing was a hoax is based on the photographs which show the earth, but no star. There's no atmosphere on the moon, thus rejecting the presence of clouds up there. In that case, one would expect significantly brighter stars from the moon's surface, but the photographs tell an entirely different story.

[see picture below]

NASA claims that the bad quality of the photograph is the reason behind no visibility of stars. Theorists believe NASA made this excuse in order to keep the tedious task of mapping every star and placing them on every photograph. Some pictures are of high quality and yet, the stars are nowhere to be seen. Certainly, an argument which NASA hasn't been able to defend till now.

3. There's no light source on the moon except the sun. Being at a huge distance away, one would expect all the shadows to run parallel in the same direction. But the moon photographs show shadows in different directions, suggesting that there might be multiple light sources. Probably, the photographs were taken on a film set.

NASA blames this one on the rocky terrain of the moon, claiming that the bumps and hills show these unparallel shadows. But theorists reject this explanation wholeheartedly. It's nearly impossible to have such angular deviations of shadows due to small hills. [see picture below]

4. One of the most controversial pictures from the USA's moon mission is the rock with a supposedly 'C' mark on it. The clarity and the symmetry of the letter suggests that it is highly unlikely that it would be a result of a natural occurrence. Here rises the question, why would the presence of a letter on a rock be so controversial? Theorists believe that the marked rock is just a prop used to demarcate the center of the stage. The alleged crew might have accidentally missed turning the mark away from the camera, thus exposing it to the world.

[see picture below]

NASA has come up with unsatisfactory and lame excuses on this one as well. On one hand, they claim the presence of this mark to be a practical joke by a video developer, while other explanations claim it to be a stray hair present on the film while the photo/video was being developed.

It's for you to decide whether such a precise accidental positioning of the stray hair is to be believed or not.

5. In a couple of the pictures made public by NASA, the backgrounds seem to be carbon copies of each other. Though officially listed as being taken miles apart, the pictures fail to explain the perfectly similar backdrops on both the pictures. [see picture below]

The explanation proposed by the conspiracy theorists says that NASA used the same backdrops to shoot both the photographs.

NASA suggests that the small size of the moon might create the illusion of similar backgrounds to the human eye, even when they were very different.

All the allegations presented above have been around for years, but to no strict conclusion. Even though these pictures show to a great extent that the U.S. owes an explanation to the world, but it seems the superpower has decided to keep things to itself.

Maybe we'll never know for sure, but time will definitely reveal these sensitive secrets, and when it does, we'll know who has been wrong all these years, the U.S.A. or thousands of conspiracy theorists.

Essentially, Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin have nothing to lose as they could receive an Oscar for best acting ever!
