An irregular periods (oligomenorrhea) first of all is benign meaning that it is not harmful in effect. Like the name implies, this condition simply refers to irregular and infrequent variations in the time between menstrual periods with intervals of more than 35 days.

Irregular periods are characterized by variations in

1. Time interval between each period/ cycle

2. The number of days that the period last

3. Abnormal blood loss whether less or more than usual during a period.

This maybe due to some of these factors: stress an anxiety, eating disorders, significant weight loss or gain, menopause, hormonal imbalance, recent birth or miscarriage, polycystic ovarian syndrome, uterine abnormalities, and other health conditions.

There is no home treatment for irregular periods. But these may help you find have been found to help:

If your irregular periods are due to an increase in stress, endeavor to relax and maintain a proper emotional and physical balance.

1. Balanced Diet:

Being underweight or overweight can cause missed and irregular periods. Keep your diet proper, eat right and try to always maintain an optimal weight.

2. Ginger:

Ginger acts as a emmenagogue (substance that increase/ promotes menstrual flow). It also works to relieve the pain associated with periods.

-Boil one-half teaspoon of freshly ground ginger in a cup of water for five to seven minutes.

-Add a little sugar.

-Drink this three times a day after meals.

-Repeat for about a month or more.

3. Carrot Juice:

Carrot is a good source of iron and boosts proper hormone functioning.

-Drink a glass of carrot juice regularly for three months.

4. Unripe Pawpaw:

Green, unripe pawpaw works as a potent regulator of menstrual flow as it helps contract muscle fibers in the uterus.

It is particularly useful for irregular periods associated with menopause and stress. Consume unripe pawpaw juice regularly for a few months.

Note: Do not use this remedy during your periods.

5. Aloe Vera:

The uses of aloe vera cannot be over emphasized. For irregular periods, aloe vera works to regulate menses by regulating associated hormones.

-Extract fresh aloe vera gel from an aloe leaf.

-Mix in one teaspoon of honey.

-Consume daily before breakfast.

-Repeat this remedy for about three months.

Note: Do not use this remedy during your periods.
