A four-year-old boy, Steve Kanu, kidnapped
about three weeks ago, at Ogun State Workers
Estate, Laderin Abeokuta, has been rescued
from his abductors.

The kidnappers, who stormed the Laderin home
of Dr. and Mrs. Mucipay Kanu, in Abeokuta, in a
taxi cab without number plate and forcefully
took away the boy who was busy playing with
the family puppy in the compound was said to
have been rescued in Enugu.

It was gathered that following the media report
of the abduction, the kidnappers put a
telephone call across to the parents,
threatening to kill the boy and also demanded
for a ransom.

Luck, however, ran against the kidnappers on
Friday, as they were arrested by police
operatives in a village in Enugu – about nine
hours’ drive fom the scene of the crime.
The suspects have since been transferred to
Ogun State Police Command in Abeokuta for
further investigation.

When contacted, Ogun State Police Command
Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi,
confirmed the story, saying the rescued boy is
doing fine, while the suspects were in custody
as at the time of filing in this report.

The father of the victim, Mucipal Kanu
confirmed to our correspondent, on Sunday,
that the boy had re-united with him and his
mother, and thanked well-wishers, particularly
the police and media, which gave maximum
support during their travails.

He added that the boy has to undergo
rehabilitation, saying that the trauma he passed
through was still an open wound for him,
stating that within the period of the captivity he
had lost weight and became malnourished.
