When does your habit and lifestyle become an addiction? Most things that become an addiction, such as drinking, sex, smoking, drugs, etc, usually start off as something you enjoy doing. But, it is important to recognize when the thing you love becomes something that can pose a danger in your life.
Most addicts do not realize how much mess they make of their lives until it is too late. You do not have to hit rock bottom before you get help, recognize these signs of addiction and take steps to resolve them today.
1. You obsess over it: It is normal that you sometimes think of the thing you love. But when it becomes something you cannot get out of your mind, even when you are in situation that requires focus such as board meeting, church service, saying your prayers, etc, then you might want to take another look at it. Obsessing over it means that every single minute of the day, you think of your last experience with it, and when you get your next fix. You spend time that could otherwise be spent doing useful things obsessing over one particular thing. Basically, it takes over you.
2. You have no life: If your habit is such that it is preventing you from being a useful member of society, then you might want to do something about it. An addict will find that he cannot keep a job, keep his family together, have problem academically and other things that makes a person useful to his society. They usually find that they have completely lost everything only when it is too late.
