Suicide bomber kills 21 at Shi`ite Muslim procession in Nigeria

Dakasoye: At least 21 people were killed on Friday when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the crowds at a Shia Muslim procession near the north Nigerian city of Kano, in the latest violence to hit the troubled region.

The attack happened in the village of Dakasoye, some 20 kilometers (13 miles) south of the city, during a march by followers of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria.

"Our procession came under a suicide attack," Muhammad Turi, who was leading thousands of people from Kano to Zaria, in the neighbouring state of Kaduna, told reporters at the scene.

"We lost 21 people and several others have been injured. We are not surprised that we`ve been attacked because this is the situation all over the country.

"This will not deter us from our religious observance. Even if all of us were bombed the last person will carry on with this duty."

An AFP reporter in Dakasoye said the road was splattered with bloodstains but the followers had continued their march.

Most were wearing black and carrying flags or portraits of the Prophet Mohammed`s grandson, Hussein, and were flanked by security guards.

One organiser, who asked to remain anonymous, told AFP the bomber ran into the crowd before he could be spotted and detonated his explosives.

"He was dressed in black like everyone else. His accomplice was initially arrested and confessed they were sent by Boko Haram," he added.

"They were part of the young men abducted by Boko Haram in (the Borno state town of) Mubi last year and taken to Sambisa Forest where they were given some military training.

"They were sent to Kano 11 days ago and kept in a house specifically for this attack."

The bomber detonated his explosives after realising his accomplice had been arrested, the organiser added.Boko Haram, the radical Sunni jihadists who want to create a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria, has previously been blamed for attacks on Shia Muslims in the region.

Boko Haram attacks force 12,000 pupils from Niger schools: UN

Niamey: Some 150 schools with more than 12,000 pupils have been forced to close due to the deadly attacks in Niger's southeast Diffa region, the United Nations said on Friday.

Most of the affected schools are near Lake Chad and on the banks of the Yobe River, which marks the border between Niger and Nigeria, the UN's Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs said in a statement.

The agency said 151 schools with a total of 12,631 pupils had closed due to "insecurity that has sparked the absence of teachers and panic in the population".

"The pupils are now at camps for displaced people," the agency said, adding that there are no schools at the camps.

Numerous local schools closed following Boko Haram's first attacks in the country in February, with more following suit following a recent surge in assaults by the Nigeria-based Islamist group, a local official told AFP.

Thirteen people were killed and three injured in an attack on the Diffa village of Ala last week, local officials said.

Niger's government has been working with the UN and other partners on a plan intended to allow children to go back to their studies in safer locations by the end of November.

Boko Haram has carried out a string of deadly attacks in Diffa, one of its strongholds on the Niger-Nigeria border, as the army struggles to contain the group's regional advances.

Cameroon, Chad and Niger have formed a military alliance with Nigeria and Benin to battle the extremists, who this year declared allegiance to the Islamic State.

Boko Haram has been hit hard by the multinational offensive, losing territory, but it has launched attacks and bombings in response.

Kano: Two young female suicide bombers, including one thought to be aged just 11, killed 15 people at a busy mobile phone market in Kano, northeast Nigeria, police said on Wednesday.

"A minibus carrying some women came to the Farm Centre GSM market and dropped off one girl aged about 11 and another aged about 18, both wore the hijab," said Kano police spokesman Musa Magaji Majia.

"One went inside the market, the other stayed outside then they exploded, killing themselves and others nearby," he told AFP.

"The victims were taken to hospital and it was later confirmed that 15 people died, not including the suicide bombers."

Five of those who died were among 58 people taken for treatment.

Most of the remaining 53 have been treated and released, said Majia.

[size=18pt]Boko Haram has previously used young girls as human bombs in its six-year insurgency to create a hardline Islamic state in northeast Nigeria.

In July 2014, Kano was hit four times in the space of a week by a spate of young female suicide bombers wearing the head and shoulder covering used by many Muslim women in the region.[/size]

Police in Kano, northern Nigeria's commercial hub, have blocked entries and exits to the city as part of a manhunt for the VW Sharan minibus that dropped the two girls at the market, Majia said.

It was said to have four other women in it.

Dozens killed in Boko Haram raids on NE Nigeria villages

Kano: Boko Haram gunmen killed dozens of people in four villages in northeast Nigeria, [size=20pt]slitting some residents' throats [/size] and opening fire on others, one resident and the police said today.

"Boko Haram gunmen came into our villages at night, killing 43 people," said Sheriff Kulo, from Kilwa village near Monguno, who escaped to the Borno state capital, Maiduguri.

There was no corroboration of his death toll but the state police commissioner confirmed the raids, which happened late last Friday.

Details have only just emerged because of poor to non-existent phone networks in the remote area.

Boko Haram has mounted almost daily raids, bombings and suicide attacks in northeast Nigeria since May 29, when Muhammadu Buhari became president vowing to crush the six-year Islamist uprising.

Yesterday, he sacked his entire military high command, who were appointed by his predecessor Goodluck Jonathan, in the latest sign he is making a fresh start in the counter-insurgency.

Kulo said the gunmen seized food and cattle then set villagers homes on fire.

"In Kilwa alone, they killed seven people, including the village head and left one seriously injured with a fracture on his leg," he added.

"They then proceeded to Gwollam, Misala and Magaram, where they did the same thing. In all they killed 43.

"They opened fire on residents and in some cases they used knives to slaughter their victims."
Many women and children fled to Monguno but were living in the open air with little food, he said. Others made it to Maiduguri to raise the alarm.

The Borno state police commissioner, Aderemi Padokun, confirmed the attacks.

"From what we heard, the gunmen raided these villages. They shot dead their victims and in some cases slit their throats. They also carted away foodstuffs and livestock," he said.

"We don't have details of the actual number of people killed in the attack but I can confirm it happened."

Boko Haram mounted a similar raid on a nearby village in the Monguno area on July 1, killing 48.

The latest deaths take the number of people killed since Buhari's presidency began to more than 625, according to an AFP count

That's thier aim. But I think it's bouncing back at them..since after the 13 November attack in Paris, the state has been looking into why Muslims born in France are becoming radical youths. This attack has done the state good. Even if it took 130 lives. At least, they now know the devil is living in thier own territory. Last week two mosques were shut down. Today another one has been shut down. More investigation is going on base on the State of emergency for good three months. The Imans will be selecting verses to preach because those Jihad verses are prohibited. They are the verses that create hate of unbelievers. Hence, provoke killing. Lets see how they will really dominate. Thier armies (Isis) will surely not survive the war with the world. Muslims are killing Muslims in Muslims states yet they claim they will dominate. Three female suicide bombers have blown themselves up at a market in Chad, killing at least 27 people.

Boko Haram is suspected of orchestrating the blasts on Koulfoua Island in Lake Chad, which borders Nigeria, Cameroon, Niger and Chad.

Security officials told the Associated Press that at least 90 people were injured in Saturday’s attack, carried out by three women.


General Banyaman Cossingar, the director general of Chad’s national police, said there had been no official claim of responsibility but Boko Haram was suspected.

The terrorist group has carried out several bombings and massacres in the region, causing the government to impose a state of emergency last month.
