God's sovereignty means that God is in control of all things. Free will refers to our human choices. How can God's perfect control of all things work with our free will?

Our human limitations make complete understanding of these two areas impossible. However, Scripture does offer insight regarding this matter. Romans 8:29 teaches, "For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son." God both knew and set in motion actions within created time that led to this conclusion.

A major issue in understanding the relationship between God's sovereignty and human free will is the relationship between God's existence outside of created space-time and human existence within space-time. God exists outside of our created universe and can see the beginning of time, end of time, and every step along the process all at the same time. When He planned the universe, He knew every step in advance.

As humans living within physical space and time, our minds are not able to work outside of space-time to see the universe and its events all taking place at once. Therefore, the relationship between God's sovereignty and human free will appears contradictory. From a human perspective, God cannot both choose events to happen and then allow humans to freely choose actions at a later time. But time is not a limiting factor to God. His power transcends our limitations and allows Him to work from a vantage point that overrides space-time conflicts to coordinate His perfect plan.

This is why the preceding verse to Romans 8:29 can state, "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose" (Romans 8:28). He can cause all things, good and bad and everything in between, to come together as part of His perfect purposes for our individual lives as well as for His overall plan for creation.

It is when we begin to see life from God's perspective that we realize His greatness, wisdom, and power. While we believe in Jesus by faith (Romans 10:9, John 3:16), we love because He first loved us (1 John 4:19) and because He chose us (John 15:16). We are called to follow God's commands, knowing He is the one who gives us the power to live for Him and to do His will.

Let me tell you a short story I made up when I did script wrting back in school. I hope I'll answer this question abit.

Once upon a time, there was a young King who inherited his fathers throne at a very young age. He didn't have a Queen, so he needed one. All his advicers had pretty daughters and fell over themselves trying to present their daughters as the best for the position. But there was a problem.

The people in his kindom knew who he was, and they knew that as the king, everything in his domain belonged to him, and everyone was subject to obey him.
He yarned for Pure and true love without any fear of subjugation. He wanted a queen who didn't know him, so had the right to say NO to him. As a matter of fact, he wanted a queen who can say no to him even when they were married. He wanted a queen who will have freedom, the Free Will to choose either to stay or to live him. He knew that, you can force a man to obey you, but you can't force a man to love you. And he needed love.

So, one day, he noticed for the first time a house keeper doing her chores. It was her turn to clean the Kings private Chambers. She won't even raise her head to look at the around. She knew that the King was there quietly reading a book, but then observing her.
The King knew that this girl didn't know him, so, at the cool of the day, after her close of work, the King disguises as one of the cleaners too and followed her from a distance to their hut. He kept doing that until one day, he approached and went into her house to meet her Parents.
They became friends. She continued going to work without knowing the very Palace she worked was a home of her friend. The King later proposed marriage to her and she accepted his proposal before she came to know he was indeed King.

Morale of the Story. The King is Christ, the girl is me, and the palace is the Kingdom of God being presented to us every day.
God is soveriegn, but allows us to take responsibility for our actions. He knows all things, yes. He can do all things Yes. But you have a responsibility, to do or not to do. Obidience without the room to disobey is not Obidience at all.

The younger Pauper girl could have said no to the King. But then, she would ve missed being the queen.

The Sinner is dead and ignorant of his state. A sinner is not a drawing man fighting to catch a lifeline. He is dead. Dead men don't appreciate anything. First Jesus goes right into that grave and pulls him out, make him realise his state, but doesn't force him to make the choice of accepting or rejecting the direction he is pointed towards.
Choose you this day whom you will serve...Jos. 24:15.
I present to you this day, life and dead. Choose (take the responsibility, you are not a robot). If you choose Life, you shall live, if you choose dead, you shall die...Deut 30:15! 19.
