2019 Igbo presidency: We’re not interested – IPOB
December 09, 2015 at 8:33 pm
By Nwabueze Okonkwo
ONITSHA – The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB has described as political of compensation, the kite being flown by some Northern elders to the effect that Ndigbo would be allowed to clinch the presidential seat in 2019.
Spokesman of the IPOB, Emma Powerful who spoke to newsmen Wednesday on the issue, said they are not interested in Nigeria’s affairs any longer, adding that those flying the kite of Igbo presidency in 2019 is merely a distraction.
Powerful said what IPOB wants is to release their leader, Nnamdi Kanu from the detention and to allow Biafrans to go and not to play politics of compensation by telling Ndigbo that they will become the president in 2019, apparently to douse tension.
He recalled that politics of compensation was played during the June 12, 1993 saga when the Yorubas were compensated with Obasanjo presidency in place of M.K.O. Abiola’s annulled election, just as President Buhari was compensated because of Boko Haram insurgency.
According to him, “If politics of compensation was used to favour Obasanjo in place of June 12 annulment and was also used to favour Buhari in place insurgency, that is their own cup of tea. But for us in IPOB, we are not interested in that politics of compensation whereby we are being told that an Igboman will become Nigeria’s president in 2019 and we will begin to listen to them”.
“All we want or are interested in is to release our leader, Kanu and then allow Biafra to be and not Igbo presidency”, he stated http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/12/2019-igbo-presidency-were-not-interested-ipob/

Wow! First time to be the first. I was like, " what should I say grin " and the guy beneath me may not have washed his face as he woke up in an attempt to take this destined spot of mine grin .
To the matter, someone should swear with his/her life that President Buhari has agreed to relinquish power in 2019? One Bishop Chukwuma said, " Until an Ibo man becomes president, the civil war has not ended" . Honestly speaking, Ibo president would dense tension and give the people of the southeast a great sense of belonging to the project called Nigeria, but before then, those throwing the bait of Ibo President should remember the saying, Once bitten, twice shy. Igbos have gone beyond childish politics where baits were been use to attract the gullible.
Even if I remain indifferent to the struggle, I will continue to say that this administration should do the needful and instill that sense of belonging to the people of the southeast. IPOD, MASSOB, etc should also be civil in their protest and quest for self determination.
Will Biafra come to be or president Buhari pass the baton to a "true" Ibo man, only time will tell.

Why are Nigerian leaders reluctant in letting the Igbos to go? Since they are seen as trouble makers and irrelevant in the affairs of the nation, then letting them go should have been a happy and hasty decision to make or are they lying to themselves that Igbos are irrelevant?

They can't because they're all worthless without the Igbos. that's why many of them can no longer sleep since this IPOB protest..

Cheap reverse psychology. Who offered them presidency in the first place? These guys are subliminally stating their desires, and setting an agenda for the phantom negotiations they are lobbying for.

As usual, they will be ignored. If they want Presidency, there's no problem but they must work for it, nobody and I mean nobody will hand Ndigbo the presidency on a silver platter. They must seek repentance and alliances. Diplomacy or nothing.

Lol...... This is a story of a visitor who has not been invited to come to d dinning table to eat and he is already saying Thank u. We are not ready for now to have an Igbo President until when they are politically mature like d north, west and d south-south. Meanwhile there is no vacancy in Aso Rock in 2019 and beyond because Buhari is an 8 years project first of all.

why are you people always talking as if someone tied you down with chains? If you are really serious about biafra, why not go back to your region this xmas and never return? Withdraw all your NASS members and stop spending the naira.

@topic

What made someone think any ibo man will become president in 2019? With this secession move? grin

Anyway part of working for the Presidency is finding out how and who to ally with. Ask Tinubu.

because a person says he's not hungry doesn't mean he isn't.

We all know the reverse psychology they are trying to play. They are also trying to blackmail Nigerians into giving them the presidency. What they failed to understand is that other regions never blackmailed Nigerians before getting there, at least not with the use of secession clamour.

The SS wanted their right and got compensated with GEJ. Their struggle wasn't all about secession.

IPOB claiming they don't want the presidency is a lie one can only tell to toddlers. In a few months time, watch how their grievances will shift to lack of federal presence, from which they'll start to clamour openly for 2019 which is a pipe dream. Mind you, Ohanaeze has said APC should field okorcha while PDP should field Ekeweremadu grin.

Which major tribe will vote for an ibo president after getting insults from their people? Biafra is just a move toescape their political blunders. If you don't know IPOD is sponsored by PDP elements, then you need to grow up.

How did the presidency of OBJ and Jonathan help the SW and SS people.?

The least we Igbos want is not presidency but True Federalism.

We want to control our resources to dredge all our rivers and build an industrialized society.

We want state police to protect our people

In short, we want the implementation of aburi accord and ahiara declaration.

Why not conduct referendum in Igboland for Igbos to choose between Presidency and Secession to prove your point.

Rawani:

Jonathan failed to deliver the 2nd Niger Bridge to the SE, failed to develop or clean up his own SS and marginalized the SW which he disregarded till the elections.

Jonathan failed the North, and shot himself in the foot by establishing almajiri schools, when the almajiri system is an ideology (twisted) and not a result of lack of public schools. He failed to develop its solid mineral potentials and empowered thugs to insult the region instead.

Jonathan failed to solve the electricity problem which we have inherited, and failed to restore the refineries and instead wasted billions of dollars in scam off-shore processing agreements which Diezani and co. used to fleece this country, ultimately causing perennial fuel scarcities all through his tenure. The aftermath is what we live with today.

Jonathan failed to diversify our economy from oil in the time of oil-price boom, and emptied our foreign reserves through a combination of corruption and incapacity to lead which ended in him being tricked by his governors to share the SWF. The DIRECT aftermath of these are the economic troubles we are facing today under low oil prices, and high exchange rates which our efforts to control is resulting in our ejection from bond indexes.

Jonathan supervised the looting and mismanagement of of the defence budget through his aides (Dasuki n co.) which seriously hampered the fight against BH, and resulted in the loss of thousands of lives. The failure to fight the terrorists with political will and sincerity, resulted in their blossoming and is the reason we are still fighting them today.

You see, while we are not blind to the realities that face us today, its is an insult to conscience, logic and common sense for the same set of people that wanted all of the above and more to continue till 2019, to come and pontificate about good governance while condemning a President that inherited these challenges just six months ago.

Put simply, you lack the moral capital to admonish or condemn Buhari or Buharists.

Have a nice day.

So the way Nigeria was constituted under GEJ was not an aberration? I remember how you doggedly supported Oduah n co., and campaigned for the status quo to be maintained till 2019.

You have laid your bed. Lie on it.

chukwudi44:

Will you shut up you liar!! The SS only got the presidency because Yaradua died in power and nothing else!! If Yaradua had not died,GEJ would not have become president.

Nigeria as presently constituted is an aberration, a situation where a president comes out openly to say he would devote 5% attention to those that voted 5% for him is really pathetic!!
