WE HAVE ZERO TOLERANCE FOR THUGGERY - ORTOM

Benue State Governor Samuel Ortom has restated the resolve of his administration to ensuring that thuggery remains eliminated in all parts of the state.
Governor Ortom made the pledge when the Executive Secretary, National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, Prof. Bem Angwe paid him a courtesy visit at the Benue Peoples House, Makurdi.
He said his administration was committed to protecting the rights and privileges of the people, stressing that the days when thugs harassed and beat people were gone for good.
The Governor commended the efforts of the Commission under Professor Angwe and assured of the state government's collaboration in guaranteeing the rights of the people.
The Governor expressed his belief in freedom of speech and the right of the people to hold divergent opinions on government policies, adding that his administration was taking steps to encourage youths with creative ideas to excel in entrepreneurship.
Speaking earlier, Professor Angwe commended Governor Ortom for his open door policy which made it possible for him and his entourage to access him without previous appointment.
He said they were in the state as part of the national campaign to sensitise Nigerians on their rights.
According him the Universal Declaration of Human Rights had been translated into various languages including those spoken in Benue and presented some copies to the Governor.
