OUTCOME OF THE RE-RUN BETWEEN DAVID MARK AND DANIEL ONJE

Election is the best way to determine the feelings, wishes and voice of a people on either the government or an individual.

The people of zone C have been presented with another opportunity to determine who will represent them in the red chamber. As you already know, this is a battle between the old soldier and the young up coming and dedicated political pride of Idoma youth.

Putting all factors on ground one will be quick to conclude that, all things been equal David Mark will defeat Daniel Onje in a free and fair polls judging by his political history, experience in the game of politics and above all connections.

With outcome of the 2015 presidential election that saw the abysmal defeat/failure of the PDP to control the central government has brought a lot of intrigues to this election giving the two candidates the opportunity if these factors are anything to go by.

First of all the people of zone C, call themselves an effective minority in Benue State. This when explained gives you an analysis of their deep rooted sentiments against the Tiv people in terms of who gets what position in the state. The position of the governor is the root of this acrimony. This makes Idoma people take decisions not necessarily to show their love for that thing they are doing, most of their electoral decisions are taken with sentiments in mind against the Tiv people.

Going by history the Idoma people believe that whoever is going to represent them should be one that have no soft spot for the Tiv man but one who will completely present their case at any fora and make proud the red and black cap the pride of the Idoma people. This has manifested in the continued occupation of David Mark in the Senate.

The next question is did David Mark represent his people very well? In my opinion he has scored 89% since his occupation at the Senate. If this factor is true then, David Mark has 70% chance of winning this election.

Another factor that will count and in the end determine the winner is the issue of the current appointments in the government of Governor Samuel Ortom. Over the years, it almost become a tradition that the post of SSG was reserved for the Idoma people.

But with current political political equation that see the Igede people having more stake in appointment is a source of worry for the Idoma people. Already David Mark has explored this sentiments, with a call on his kinsmen that the current government in the state is against them as such he needs to be in Abuja and present their case at the center. If this factor is anything to use then D Mark will be returned.

A worrying factor that will count against David Mark is the inability of the Idoma people to do opposition politics. Idoma's are known for belonging to the mainstream politics. Now that both in Abuja and in the state the APC is in control will give Daniel Onje the opportunity to garner more votes against David Mark.

But if the people throw caution to the wind and decide to pitch tent with their beloved Mark then he will be re-elected.

Another factor that will determine the outcome of this election is the issue of the current change mantra of President Buhari. If David Mark election is nullified by a court in Nigeria, something that was a taboo, it means the current judiciary is line with the change agenda been preached by the APC.

And if INEC is allowed to conduct a free and fair polls the result will be interesting. Going by past situations where David Mark had his election result announced in Abuja instead of in Otukpo simply because the then PDP led government was appointing people to elective positions against the wishes of the people.

But if the APC led government want to adopt the PDP way of doing things then, the next Senator of zone C is Daniel Onje. Do you envisage this?

Another factor is the youthfulness of the APC candidate, Hon Daniel Onje. Many people argue that Hon Daniel Onje is still young and should hold on. A reporter with Idoma voice stated that, in Africa it is a child that leaves the seat for an elder to sit and not the other way round. If this adage comes to play judging by the age and experience of David Mark, it means the battle will be fierce.

Idoma's will see Onje defeating Mark an embarrassment to the Idoma people. They will swallow their problems against Mark and vote him back to the Senate.

More to come ...................

OUTCOME OF THE RE-RUN BETWEEN DAVID MARK AND DANIEL ONJE

A very interesting factor that will count is the style of our voting pattern in Africa. People vote in Africa most times against their choice but for the monetary implications that accompany their choice. Usually in our political setting after elections, politicians go and abandon their people only to show back after four years to use money and buy votes. In zone C, David Mark is known for doing this and if the issue of vote buying will count then, David Mark will be returned because of the wealth he accumulated to himself over the years. Hon Onje will be banking on the APC to finance his campaign.

Finally, the two candidates are Idoma sons come rain come sun. I want to advice the Idoma people to stop involving the Tiv people in this current situation David Mark has found himself into. The Tiv people are not going to participate in the election of the senator in zone C, so instead of coming together to vote who they want they are busy playing blame game on the Tiv people. Whatever you do, the choice lies with the Idoma people and the candidate they decide will be their Senator.

But mind you, if all the electoral evils that the PDP did in the past were to pay them back cries and pains will be the end result for supporters on the loosing candidate.

One thing i dislike is people standing from afar to give some dumb analysis over issues they know nothin about. Who told this guy tht d idoma' like David mark? Why is he of the habit of anouncing his previous results in Abuja if truely he has d people mandate. Just watch and see how woefully he will fail this time.
