President Muhammadu Buhari clocked 73 years old today, December 17, 2015.

Buhari was sworn into office on May 29.

Buhari was born on December 17, 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, to his dad Adamu and also mother, Zulaihat.

He was Nigeria’s Head of State from December 31, 1983 to August 27, 1985 after overthrowing the govt of President Shehu Shagari in a coup.

Buhari was himself overthrown in a coup directed by General Ibrahim Babangida in 1985.
Buhari went on to contest the 2003, 2007 and 2011 presidential elections but was defeated every time.

He became Nigeria’s president in 2015 after defeating ex- President, Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 elections and also became the first person to unseat an incumbent Nigerian president in democratic elections.
