A Nigerian youth, Okoro Benedict Chinedum, has been invited to present a paper entitled: “Freedom from Poverty: The Nigerian Perspective,” to the scientific committee in charge of 10th United Nations International Scientific Conference slated for Szent Istvan University of Godollo, Hungary, from June 23-26, 2009.

The theme of the conference is MDGs: Challenges and Perspectives.

Chinedum, who the only black African invited to deliver a lecture at the event, is currently an administrative officer with the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Abuja, Nigeria.

In the paper, the vibrant writer articulated the predicament of the Nigerian child, who he said has been wrestled down by ominous hunger.

He blamed the West for its tacit deceit of Africa through ideological colonialism just as he flayed the partnership for global food security, stating that Africa is capable of providing all of mankind with food.

“But Europe has ignored this major sector for which many Africans became slaves to their plantations, a pivot to the advancement for which they are revered today.

“The campaign to free Africa from adverse poverty would remain a jostle until they stop seeing Africa as their conquered zone and as a place to do business,” he said.

Born 30 years ago, Chinedum hails from Dioka-Nzerem in Ehime-Mbano, LGA of Imo State. He had his primary and secondary education in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State before proceeding to the University of Benin, Edo State, where he distinguished himself as a departmental scholar till he graduated with a First Class in Philosophy and Religion.

He is a prospective Master’s student of War, Violence and Security at the University of Sussex, London.
