The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, and the Peoples Democratic Party, have expressed condolences to the family of the late Minority Leader of the Osun State House of Assembly, Mr. Dejo Makinde.

The lawmaker, who was one of the two members of the PDP at the assembly, died on Sunday on the day he clocked 48 years, leaving behind an aged mother, wife and children. The Ooni, in a condolence message issued on his behalf on Monday by the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Ooni’s Palace, Ile Ife, Mr. Moses Olafare, described the news of the lawmaker’s death as shocking.

Ooni’s condolence message read, “Ile Oodua received the news of the sudden death of Honorable Dejo Makinde with rude shock. Hon Makinde representing Ife Central Constituency in the Osun State House of Assembly was a gentleman endowed with attributes of ‘Omoluabi’ and his positive impacts will remain indelible on the minds of not only inhabitants of Ile-Ife but the entire Osun State, having patriotically served as Ife Central Local Government boss and a legislator representing Ife Central Constituency in the state House of Assembly.
“His Imperial Majesty, The Arole Oodua, Ooni Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi(Ojaja II), hereby expresses the condolences of Ile Oodua to the members of his immediate and extended family, relatives, friends, political associates, fellow state legislators and all his Ife Central constituents’ for whom he had been a very good ambassador in the last 18 months. “

Aregbesola also expressed condolence to the family of the deceased and the PDP in the state. He urged the family and the supporters of the late lawmakers to take his death with equanimity, noting that Makinde left an indelible mark in the minds of the people and in the state within his short sojourn on earth. Aregbesola said, “Though it is very painful to lose somebody like Hon. Oladejo at that youthful age, one clear lesson is the transient nature of life itself; it is not about Makinde Oladejo, but about the fact that death is a certainty that must come to every living being. “It is my fervent prayer that God will grant him eternal home at the bosom of Jesus Christ and give the people of Ife Central the fortitude to bear the loss. We also pray God to comfort his family and give them courage and hope.”

The PDP in a statement issued by the Director of Media and Publicity, Mr. Diran Odeyemi, commiserated with the family of the deceased, the Speaker of the House of Assembly and other lawmakers. The party said, “A scholar of note, Makinde, was strict but humane; brave but with manners; a democrat of purest quality and one of the few reminders of politicians with true love of people.

“His records as local government chairman and state lawmaker have remained permanently etched on the minds of people.” Also, the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr. Ali Ahmad, has described Makinde’s death as shocking and a colossal loss to the people of Osun State and the political class in general. Ahmad, in a statement on Monday by his Special Assistant on Media, Shuaib Abdulkadir, said the legislator who represented Ife Central Constituency was a parliamentarian per excellence whose robust contributions at the floor of the House would be missed his by colleagues.
